Addresses, Postcodes, Mail and Delivery in Phnom Penh
An address in Phnom Penh works best as several pieces of information used for different purposes, rather than one line copied into every form. An international parcel needs the recipient’s full name, building and unit details, street, local administrative areas, postcode, city, country and telephone number. A food courier or ride-hailing driver usually needs something different: an accurate map pin, the building name, the correct entrance and a reachable local phone number.
A formally correct street address can still be unhelpful to a driver if it points to the centre of a large site or omits the tower and entrance. Conversely, a landmark and map pin may be enough for dinner delivery but not for a bank, insurer, customs declaration or international postal label.
The practical solution is to maintain three versions: a formal address, a short app address and a final-delivery instruction.
Why a street name alone is rarely enough
Phnom Penh is changing quickly. New residential projects open, buildings use several entrances, internal access roads do not always appear accurately on maps, and similar house numbers can exist in different parts of the city.
A full local address may include:
- house or building number;
- street number or name;
- village or neighbourhood information;
- sangkat, the commune-level urban administrative area;
- khan, the larger district-level division;
- Phnom Penh;
- postcode;
- Cambodia.
You do not need to recite every element for every tuk-tuk ride. You should know them for leases, banks, official correspondence, international deliveries and service accounts.
Local businesses often publish addresses from the specific building outwards: building number, street, village, sangkat, khan and Phnom Penh. This reflects the administrative logic of the city.
The address in a lease may not be the best courier instruction. A contract can use a formal or cadastral description, while the driver relies on the sign, gate, road access and nearest recognised landmark.
Keep a formal address and a courier address
The formal version is useful for banks, insurance, contracts, immigration or visa forms, international post and provider records. The short version is used for rides, food delivery, technicians and guests.
| Element | Why it matters | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Building and street | Identifies the site | No. 28, Street 63 |
| Sangkat and khan | Distinguishes the locality | Boeung Reang, Daun Penh |
| City and postcode | Supports postal sorting | Phnom Penh 120xxx |
For a tower, add the apartment, floor and block. A single development may have several buildings with one shared name. An office or mixed-use project may have separate visitor, service and parking entrances.
A safe international structure is:
RECIPIENT NAME
Apartment, floor, tower or building name
House number and street
Sangkat, Khan
Phnom Penh, postcode
CAMBODIA
Tel: +855 ...
Do not translate Cambodian street, sangkat or building names into Russian or another unrelated language. Use the Latin-script form shown in the lease, utility record, building document or official map. Preserve the recognised English name of a condominium or office development.
The phone number is not a replacement for the address, but it is operationally important. A courier may call to request a pin, identify the correct gate or explain that they are waiting outside a neighbouring building.
Postcodes in Cambodia
Current official Cambodian examples use six-digit postcodes. UPU materials include Phnom Penh examples in this format, and Cambodia Post publishes six-digit codes for locations including the central post office.
Legacy five-digit codes and broad generic codes still appear on international databases, company websites and old templates. Even official web pages can contain older material alongside newer systems. Do not guess a postcode or assume that one central Phnom Penh code applies to the entire city.
A reliable process is:
- Use Cambodia Post’s official location or postcode service.
- Match the sangkat and khan to the lease or building record.
- Ask building management or the landlord which postcode they use for mail.
- Reconfirm the code for an important shipment.
A postcode supports sorting, but it cannot rescue an incomplete delivery label. A parcel addressed only to a condominium name and postcode may still require the unit, phone number and exact entrance.
Do not copy the postcode of a nearby hotel or café merely because it appears close on the map. A long street can cross administrative and delivery zones.
Establishing your official address after moving in
Do not build the address from one source alone.
Start with the lease. It should normally identify the property, unit, street, sangkat and khan. Compare this with building-management records, utility documents and the map location.
If the versions differ, ask the landlord or management office which format is used for:
- official correspondence;
- postal deliveries;
- bank letters;
- utility accounts;
- parcel reception.
Management should be able to provide:
- the full English-language address;
- postcode;
- unit, tower and floor;
- sangkat and khan;
- reception telephone number;
- parcel-acceptance rules;
- the location where couriers wait or leave orders.
Save three versions in one note:
- Full formal address.
- Short address for apps.
- Courier instruction with gate, tower, floor, landmark and reception contact.
A useful short instruction might be:
[Building name], Tower B, entrance from Street 310. Leave at reception. Call +855 ...
For a small house without reception, save a current photo of the gate and façade. Sending that image together with the pin can help the courier distinguish it from neighbouring properties.
Why the map pin is a separate part of the address
For urban delivery, the map pin is not merely a convenience. It identifies the usable approach to the property.
Automatic search can place the pin:
- in the centre of a large development;
- at the rear of a building;
- on a parallel road;
- at a closed gate;
- on the wrong side of a divided carriageway.
Place it at the entrance actually used by deliveries. In a large project, this may be the service gate rather than the main lobby. Residential towers, offices and retail units can all have different access points.
Before saving the address, check:
- whether the approach road is open;
- whether the map directs drivers through a locked gate;
- whether the displayed building name matches the sign;
- whether the house number is visible;
- whether a car or tuk-tuk can stop safely;
- whether visitors need access approval.
Name saved places clearly. Home — Tower B, Street 310 entrance is safer than Home, particularly after moving or when several addresses are stored.
Cambodia Post also uses modern geolocation tools in parts of its digital service. Alternative location references can help with the final approach, but they do not replace the ordinary address on an international postal label.
Receiving food, groceries and small orders
Delivery apps usually provide the courier with the map point, phone number and order note. The more complex the building, the more useful the note becomes.
Ask the building whether couriers may go upstairs. Many condominiums require orders to be left in the lobby or at a delivery shelf.
A suitable note might include:
- tower or block;
- entrance street;
- reception handover;
- instruction to call on arrival.
Use a Cambodian number where possible. A courier may be unwilling or unable to place an international call.
Do not place a permanent door-entry code in a recurring note. Meet the courier downstairs or use a time-limited code if the access system supports one.
For expensive electronics, legal papers or other important items, avoid anonymous drop-off. Receive the parcel personally or obtain the name of the staff member who accepted it, together with a photograph or electronic proof where available.
Reception may hold many parcels. Security at the entrance does not automatically mean the building accepts liability for each package.
How ordinary post works
Cambodia Post handles domestic and international mail, tracking, post-office boxes and undeliverable items. Its official site provides service and location information.
A postal item normally passes through three stages:
- Domestic or international transportation.
- Sorting by postcode and local office.
- Final delivery or collection.
A tracking update does not always mean a courier is already travelling to the apartment. The item may be awaiting processing, customs information or collection from an office.
For an important international parcel:
- write the recipient’s name consistently with their identification;
- include a reachable Cambodian number in
+855format, omitting the first local zero; - confirm that the building accepts postal items;
- keep the tracking number;
- check whether identification is required for collection.
Some buildings accept food deliveries but will not sign for registered documents or postal parcels. Others hold parcels only during stated reception hours.
A post-office box or collection point can be useful for frequent travellers, but only where the specific service accepts that type of item. Do not use a post-office address as your own without arranging the service.
Addressing an international parcel to Phnom Penh
Give the sender a block that can be copied without modification.
Example:
KATYA IVANOVA
Apt. 1205, Tower B, Example Residence
No. 25, Street 310
Sangkat Boeung Keng Kang I, Khan Boeung Keng Kang
Phnom Penh 120xxx
CAMBODIA
Tel. +855 ...
Example Residence and 120xxx are placeholders. Replace them with the real building and verified postcode.
Write the destination country on a separate line in capital Latin letters: CAMBODIA.
Remove or fully cover any old shipping label on a reused box. Conflicting barcodes and addresses can cause misrouting.
A courier company may split the address into fields such as state/province, city, district and postcode that do not map perfectly to Cambodia’s administrative structure. Preserve the full address in the free-text lines and follow the carrier’s current instructions for mandatory fields. Do not invent a state or omit the khan merely to force the address into a foreign template.

Postal services and commercial express carriers use different delivery and customs processes.
A Cambodia Post item may move through the postal network and a local office. DHL, FedEx, UPS or another express provider usually manages its own clearance and contacts the recipient directly.
The process depends on:
- declared contents;
- value;
- transport mode;
- supporting documents;
- whether import duties, tax or handling charges apply;
- restrictions on the item.
Before ordering an expensive product from abroad, ask the carrier:
- whether it delivers to the address;
- who completes customs clearance;
- which documents may be required;
- what charges may arise;
- whether office collection is available;
- what happens after a failed delivery.
Do not deliberately understate the value or misdescribe the contents. That can lead to delays, reassessment, penalties or refusal.
Medicines, food, liquids, batteries, aerosols and other categories may be restricted. Cambodia Post and the origin country’s postal or aviation rules may both apply.
Preventing loss inside a residential development
The final hundred metres can be the least controlled part of the journey. The parcel has reached Phnom Penh, but the courier cannot identify the tower, reception does not recognise the tenant’s name, or the recipient misses the call.
Before delivery:
- Tell reception that a parcel is expected.
- Send the pin for the correct gate.
- Provide the tower, floor and unit.
- Keep the phone reachable.
- Record the name of the staff member who accepts it.
- Retain tracking and proof of handover.
The lease may be registered under the landlord’s name while the parcel is addressed to the tenant. Ask management to add the resident’s name to its internal system after move-in.
Check parcel-desk opening hours. Twenty-four-hour security is not the same as twenty-four-hour parcel reception.
For a visibly damaged parcel, photograph or film the packaging before opening and note the damage with the courier where possible. The effect of signing without comment depends on the carrier’s terms, but contemporaneous evidence is always useful.
Sending a parcel from Phnom Penh
Cambodia Post provides domestic and international services, rate information, tracking and packaging options. Price depends on destination, weight and service level.
Prepare:
- the recipient’s complete address;
- phone number and postcode;
- accurate description of contents;
- quantity and value;
- sender identification if required;
- robust packaging;
- enough time to complete customs forms.
Use a strong box, protect fragile contents, fill empty space and seal the package properly. Liquids require leak-proof containment, but safe packaging does not make a prohibited item acceptable for air transport.
For a valuable item, ask about insurance, compensation limits and proof of delivery. Basic tracking does not necessarily equal full-value protection.
Send the recipient a photograph of the final label and the tracking number. Address or postcode errors are easier to catch before the parcel leaves the counter.
Home address, post-office box or collection point
The best option depends on your routine.
| Option | Main benefit | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Home | Convenient for daily deliveries | Depends on reception and access |
| Post-office box | Stable address for correspondence | Not suitable for every parcel |
| Office collection | Personal handover | Must be arranged with the carrier |
A home address works for most residents who have a reliable pin, phone and reception process. A separate postal address may suit someone who moves frequently or receives business correspondence.
Delivery and parcel scams
A home address is personal data. Do not publish the full unit, floor, phone and access code in a public profile.
A fraudulent text or call may claim that a parcel requires a small customs, storage or redelivery payment. Verify the status through the official tracking number and carrier website, not the link in the message.
Never share an SMS or app verification code with a courier. If the service uses a handover PIN, provide it only at the moment of actual receipt.
New bank details for customs or redelivery charges should be checked independently. Legitimate charges may exist, but they should appear on an official invoice or recognised payment page—not only in a message from an unknown number.
Do not give an unknown courier your passport, original lease or bank card as “security”. Identification may need to be shown in an official process, but leaving the original document with an individual is unsafe.
Common mistakes
1. Saving the pin in the centre of the building
The driver arrives at a closed side and must circle the block.
2. Using only the condominium name
Projects may have multiple phases, towers or similar names.
3. Guessing the postcode
The item may reach the city but require extra manual clarification.
4. Listing only a foreign telephone number
The courier may not call internationally.
5. Omitting the sangkat and khan
These administrative details help distinguish similar streets and sites.
6. Assuming reception will accept the parcel
The resident is not registered or the parcel desk is closed.
7. Copying an address from an old listing
The office, entrance or numbering may have changed.
8. Mixing inconsistent transliterations
Use one Latin-script version throughout the label.
9. Using only a landmark on the external package
“Behind the shopping centre” may help a driver but not automated sorting.
10. Failing to retain proof of handover
If building staff accepted the package, the name and time are important.
Create one reusable address card
After moving in, save this template and complete every field:
Full recipient name:
Building name:
Tower or block:
Apartment and floor:
House number:
Street:
Sangkat:
Khan:
City: Phnom Penh
Postcode:
Country: CAMBODIA
Local phone: +855 ...
Google Maps entrance link:
Alternative location reference:
Courier instruction:
Reception phone:
Parcel-desk hours:
From this card, you can create the right version for each situation. International senders receive the full block. Delivery apps use the entrance pin and short note. A bank or insurer receives the formal address from the lease or supporting documents.
Update the card after moving, changing phone number or learning that the building uses a different official spelling. Old saved app addresses are a common reason deliveries go to a previous home.
Conclusion
A reliable Phnom Penh address has three layers: the formal written address, an accurate entrance pin and a final-delivery instruction. None completely replaces the others.
For international mail, use the full recipient name, apartment, building, house number, street, sangkat, khan, verified six-digit postcode, Phnom Penh, Cambodia and a local phone number. For city deliveries, place the pin at the correct entrance and add a short note. For valuable parcels, notify reception and retain proof of delivery.
The most useful task after moving in is to assemble one complete address card and verify it with the landlord or management office. That prevents each future order, document and parcel from becoming a new guessing exercise.

Frequently asked
Should a Phnom Penh resident keep two versions of the address?
Yes. Use a complete formal address for official documents and international mail, and a delivery version with the map pin, building name, correct entrance and reachable phone number for local couriers.
Where can the exact postcode be confirmed?
Check official Cambodia Post information, the building’s documents and the management office. A neighbouring property’s postcode or the central post office code may not match the address.
Can a map pin replace a postal address?
It is highly useful for local delivery, but an international parcel still needs the recipient’s name, street and building details, administrative areas, postcode, country and telephone number.
