Angkor recorded 46,770 foreign visitors in August 2026

August was less weak than the year-to-date picture

Angkor recorded 474,993 foreign visitors from January through August 2026, a 29.07% decline from the same period in 2025. Ticket revenue for the eight months exceeded US$22.5 million and was 27.43% lower year on year.

Against that backdrop, August’s 8.02% visitor decline is a clear improvement in the monthly comparison. It is not, however, evidence that the earlier loss of demand has been reversed. The year-to-date gap remained close to one-third even after the softer August result.

That distinction matters for anyone using tourism statistics to judge business conditions in Siem Reap. The eight-month total can hide the fact that August performed closer to last year; the August number on its own can just as easily make the improvement look more complete than it is.

What the ticket data can — and cannot — tell property owners

For hotels, restaurants, tour operators and other businesses closely tied to foreign Angkor visitors, ticket sales are a more focused local signal than a nationwide tourism headline. They measure activity at the attraction that anchors much of Siem Reap’s international leisure demand.

The link to residential or hospitality property performance is less direct. An Angkor ticket does not equal one occupied apartment or one hotel room: visitors stay for different lengths of time, use different accommodation types, or may arrive as part of organised tours. The 46,770 figure therefore cannot be converted into an occupancy rate, rental price or investment yield for a particular property.

The useful takeaway is narrower. August international traffic to Angkor was much closer to its 2025 level than the January–August total was, but a property or hospitality decision still needs separate evidence on room nights, occupancy, rates and the relevant accommodation segment.

September’s partial count is not yet a new trend

Angkor Enterprise’s running counter showed 489,306 foreign Angkor Pass buyers from January 1 through September 15, 2026. That confirms continued visits after August, but half a month cannot be compared fairly with a complete monthly result.

August therefore remains the latest completed month for a clean year-on-year reading. A stronger conclusion about whether the improvement continued requires the full September report and the comparable September 2025 figure.
