The centre was developed through cooperation between Cambodian health authorities and the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH). KOFIH says the work combined new facilities with medical equipment and workforce development as part of wider programmes for NCD care and rehabilitation services in north-west Cambodia.

Battambang adds rehabilitation to chronic-disease care

The Battambang facility has a different emphasis from the NCD centre inaugurated in Pursat a day earlier. Pursat is focused on strengthening early screening and management for conditions including diabetes and hypertension, while the Battambang project also includes a rehabilitation component.

KOFIH says capacity in physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy is to be strengthened in stages. The programme is intended to support patients who need rehabilitation after conditions such as stroke, with the broader aim of helping them recover function and independence. For people living in Battambang and nearby areas, that creates the possibility of receiving more of this care within the province instead of assuming that specialist rehabilitation always requires travel to Phnom Penh.

The phased wording matters. The centre itself has been inaugurated, but the official material does not establish that every planned rehabilitation service was immediately available at full capacity from opening day.

Access rules, fees and insurance are not yet detailed publicly

The announcements reviewed for this story do not provide a detailed specialist schedule, referral pathway, price list or appointment procedure. They also do not establish what a particular private insurance policy would cover or whether foreign patients follow different payment or registration rules.

Anyone planning treatment around the new centre should therefore confirm the specific service with Battambang Provincial Referral Hospital: whether the relevant specialist is currently available, whether a referral is required, how often therapy can be provided and what charges apply. For rehabilitation after stroke, a cardiovascular event or another serious condition, the treatment plan still needs to be based on the individual patient's clinical assessment rather than on the existence of the new facility alone.
