Cambodia and Croatia set out priorities for closer mine action cooperation
Let’s explore this page together
Training exchanges among the proposals
Exchanges of trainers, joint visits to clearance sites and stronger support for survivors were among the initiatives proposed by Ly Thuch. He also highlighted drones, satellite imagery, sensors and artificial intelligence.
Ly Thuch, first vice-president of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), co-chaired the meeting with Croatia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Gordan Grlić Radman. The dialogue took place at CMAA headquarters, with diplomatic representatives, mine action organisations and development partners attending.
AKP’s account gives no budget, timetable for the initiatives or list of locations for joint work.
For practical context, see Cambodia law and taxes. This development also connects with Cambodia and China sign vocational training cooperation MoU.
An announcement cannot establish a plot’s safety
For residents and businesses in affected rural areas, findings about the particular land remain essential. The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) describes surveys as a way to establish evidence of hazards and define their extent. Land release draws on survey findings and clearance where needed.
The international standard IMAS 08.30 calls for documentation showing that clearance requirements have been met, together with records of the boundaries of cleared land. The cooperation announcement therefore provides no basis for declaring an individual plot safe for farming or construction.
