Construction begins on academy offices and a biochemistry facility in Takhmao
Let’s explore this page together
Groundbreaking takes place in Prek Pring
Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Dith Tina presided over the ceremony in Prek Pring village, Setbo commune, according to state news agency AKP. The project covers a secretariat building for the Cambodia Agricultural Science Academy (CASA) and a separate biochemistry building for the National Agricultural Laboratory (NAL).
The announcement concerns those new premises, not the opening of a laboratory service. AKP did not specify a completion schedule, an opening date or which testing and research services the biochemistry building will eventually provide.
For practical context, see Cambodia market and country comparisons. This development also connects with New science library opens at Battambang’s Anlong Vil school.
CASA brings several research institutes into one structure
A government sub-decree issued in March 2026 set out a consolidation of research institutes across agriculture, forestry, livestock and fisheries. CASA's network includes the existing Cambodian Agronomy Research and Development Institute (CARDI) and Cambodian Rubber Research Institute (CRRI), alongside the new Fisheries-Aquaculture Research and Development Institute (FARDI).
The academy's site is close to Techo International Airport. That location and the planned facilities could be relevant to researchers and agricultural businesses assessing the area over the longer term, although the latest announcement provides no recruitment plans or arrangements for external access to the labs.
For households considering a move to Takhmao, the project is one indication of the city's developing research infrastructure. It does not yet establish when new employment opportunities or services will become available. Decisions about where to live still need to rest on existing transport links, workplaces and daily amenities.
