Cambodia floods affect over 25,500 families across 10 provinces
Let’s explore this page together
The impact rose sharply in the latest update
The Sept. 25 tally put the number of affected families at 16,789, with 2,016 evacuated. In the next update, disaster officials said the total had risen to more than 25,500 affected families and 2,908 evacuated households. Floodwater had also reached 24,505 homes and 12,551 hectares of rice fields.
Ten provinces were reported as affected: Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Kratie, Pailin, Preah Vihear, Pursat, Siem Reap and Tboung Khmum. The rapid change in the figures is a reminder that dated local updates are more useful for travel or day-to-day planning than a broad description of Cambodia's rainy season.
For practical context, see Cambodia market and country comparisons. This development also connects with Cambodia floods affect nearly 58,000 families.
Heavy rain, not a Mekong overflow, is driving the current floods
The disaster committee said the present flooding is primarily rain-driven. Water levels at most major Mekong monitoring stations remained below warning levels and were trending down. That does not remove the risk of flash flooding, because intense local rain can overwhelm low-lying roads and drainage systems even when the main river is falling.
Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology warned of widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds from Sept. 24 through Sept. 30. Cambodia is not on the direct track of Typhoon Surigae, but the wider weather system is strengthening the southwest monsoon and contributing to continued rainfall.
Province-wide figures do not describe every neighbourhood
Being listed among the ten affected provinces does not mean every district is flooded. Conditions can differ sharply from one town, road or neighbourhood to the next, and access can change after another period of heavy rain. Residents and households considering a move should therefore treat the national totals as context and rely on the latest local notices for the exact place and route they need.
For housing decisions, the useful questions are practical ones: how high the site sits, where water drains, and whether the road to a main artery, school or hospital remains usable after heavy rain. National statistics show the scale of the event, but they cannot answer those location-specific questions on their own.
