Cambodia launches official information websites for Phnom Penh and all 24 provinces

Event date

The launch creates a nationwide network for information departments at the sub-national level. The sites run on a shared government content-management system, giving provincial and capital offices a common framework for publishing and managing official material.

The network covers Phnom Penh and all 24 provinces

The September 21 launch covered 25 Departments of Information: one for Phnom Penh and one for each of Cambodia's 24 provinces. The two ministries presented the system as part of a broader effort to coordinate official information between national and sub-national institutions.

The Ministry of Information said the departments had already published more than 14,000 news and digital-content items across the sites by the time of the launch, with total visits exceeding 100,000. Those figures describe use of this website network; they do not measure access to all government services or the reach of every local authority.

A common government domain makes the source easier to identify

A joint ministerial announcement states that the websites use a unified digital identity under the `.info.gov.kh` government domain. That gives residents a practical way to distinguish a provincial information department's own website from reposts or similarly named private pages.

This is most useful for updates whose relevance is local rather than national. A notice published by one province can be checked at its source without assuming that the same rule, event or service applies elsewhere in Cambodia.

Useful for local verification, not a transaction portal

For residents, business owners and property buyers, the sites can serve as a first stop for checking province-specific announcements and identifying which local authority is communicating the information. They may be particularly helpful when a story is circulating through social media without a clear original source.

The launch does not create a single online service for property registration, immigration, permits or other legally significant procedures. Where a decision depends on a law, registry entry, licence or personal status, the controlling document and responsible authority still need to be checked separately.
