Cambodia confirms 24 casinos stopped online gambling after September 30 deadline
On October 1, Agence Kampuchea Presse reported inspection results released by the Secretariat of the Ad Hoc Commission for Combating Online Scams. The checks were carried out with the Commercial Gambling Management Commission of Cambodia, provincial authorities and procedural coordination from provincial courts.
The first post-deadline checks covered three provinces
Twelve of the casinos were in Preah Sihanouk, seven in Banteay Meanchey and five in Svay Rieng. Authorities said the sites had stopped activities including livestreamed gambling, online football betting, online lotteries and other forms of internet-based wagering. Equipment and materials used for those operations were dismantled and removed.
The October 1 statement marks a change in status from the September announcement. Cambodia's Ministry of Interior had said on September 24 that casino-based online betting would be suspended from early October as part of a broader effort to tighten controls around online scams and financial flows. The later report provides the first concrete post-deadline inspection results for this group of casinos.
Authorities said monitoring will continue at the inspected properties and at other locations nationwide. The statement did not specify how many casinos across Cambodia had been running online gambling before the deadline, so the 24 sites should be read as confirmed inspection results rather than a final national total.

Stopping online operations does not equal a casino shutdown
The official notice does not say that the 24 casinos ceased land-based gambling or lost their casino licences. It reports the end of their online gambling and betting activity and the removal of equipment used for that business line.
The same government update separately referred to 18 casino licences previously revoked over links to online scams and nine licences suspended pending further investigation. It did not state that those casinos are the same properties as the 24 sites covered by the October 1 inspections. The figures therefore describe different enforcement measures and should not be combined into one closure count.
For workers, landlords and businesses in casino towns, that distinction is material. Employment, contractor demand and housing demand can change even while a physical casino remains open, but the effect will depend on the scale of the online operation at each property and on further enforcement results.
