$300m Cambodia SuperPort breaks ground in Kampong Speu
The site is in Sampov village, Chbar Mon sangkat, Chbar Mon city, Kampong Speu province. Cambodia's state news agency AKP says the project is intended to connect domestic production bases more efficiently with regional and international markets while strengthening freight and supply-chain infrastructure.
This is a meaningful milestone because the project has been in development for years. Cambodia's Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Singapore's YCH Group signed a framework agreement in 2021, followed by further partnership and project-development arrangements. The August 31 ceremony therefore moves the story from planning and structuring into physical construction.
What is being built in Chbar Mon
The Cambodia SuperPort is planned as a combined logistics and industrial complex rather than a single freight terminal. AKP puts the site at about 132 hectares and the stated investment at roughly $300 million. ASEAN describes the Phnom Penh Logistics Complex as the second SuperPort under the Smart Growth Connect and ASEAN Smart Logistics Network initiatives, following the Vietnam project.
The intended role is to bring logistics infrastructure closer to manufacturing and improve links between Cambodian producers, transport corridors and overseas markets. That objective should not be confused with current operating capacity: the groundbreaking confirms that construction has started, while the launch materials reviewed for this story do not provide a confirmed completion date for the full complex.
Why Kampong Speu could matter more to business
For manufacturers, distributors and logistics operators looking west of Phnom Penh, a large new hub could eventually alter where warehousing and industrial activity concentrate. If the project is delivered at the announced scale, Chbar Mon would gain a more prominent role in Cambodia's production and freight network.
The property implication is less direct. A major infrastructure project can support business activity over time, but a groundbreaking ceremony does not establish future residential or land-price growth. Any effect on the local housing market will depend on actual construction progress, operating businesses, jobs, transport use and services that emerge around the site.
One project detail still needs clarification
The sources around the ceremony do not use the same name for the Cambodian project partner. ASEAN's August 31 report refers to Sear Brother Investments, while YCH Group's project materials and earlier agreements identify WorldBridge Group. That discrepancy does not change the confirmed facts of the groundbreaking, location, scale or stated investment, but the current joint-venture structure should not be presented as settled without additional corporate documentation.
The project's wider economic claims also remain goals rather than measured outcomes. Stronger connectivity, lower logistics friction and more industrial activity are reasons the complex is being developed; their real impact will only become clear as facilities are completed and begin operating.
