Glenalmond Phuket is now open in Thalang: what families need to know

Event date

What opened in August

Glenalmond Phuket is the first overseas campus linked to Scotland's Glenalmond College. The Phuket school is based at Thanyapura Sports & Health Resort in the north of the island and began operating in August 2026. The 12 August opening report described the founding cohort as Early Years and Primary pupils.

The school uses the National Curriculum for England as a core part of its academic model and also promotes digital literacy, Singapore Mathematics, sport and other programmes. Its current website now includes a Lower Secondary section as well. Families with older children should therefore confirm which year groups are actually taking pupils in the relevant academic year rather than assuming that every programme shown online has the same intake status.

Because this is a new Phuket campus, it does not yet have a long local record of examination results or graduate outcomes. The Glenalmond name and the relationship with the Scottish school explain the project's educational background, but parents still need to judge the Phuket campus on the programme, staff, admissions fit and day-to-day experience available to their own child.

Why the location matters for families

For households with school-age children, the school run can shape where it makes sense to live more than proximity to a beach or tourist centre. A new international school in Thalang makes northern Phuket a more practical residential option for families who want to reduce daily cross-island travel.

That can matter when choosing a long-term rental or a home for personal use. The useful comparison is the real journey at school start and finish times, not simply the distance shown on a map. The new campus adds another reason to consider the north, but its opening does not establish that local rents or property values will rise.

For families still deciding whether to relocate, one uncertainty has at least changed: Glenalmond Phuket is no longer only a planned school. It is operating. The remaining questions are more personal — the child's year group, admissions availability and whether the location works with the family's wider routine.

What to confirm before choosing a home

If Glenalmond is on a family's shortlist, the first step is to confirm the year group currently available for the child and the admissions position for that intake. The school's present website publishes material for Early Years, Primary and Lower Secondary, while the opening report specifically described the first cohort as Early Years and Primary.

The second issue is the commute. A Thalang campus can be convenient for a household already focused on northern Phuket and much less convenient from another part of the island. It makes more sense to compare homes after the school place, timetable and transport plan are clear rather than choosing a property around the school name alone.
