Infineon's Samut Prakan plant is scheduled to open on October 1

Event date

The opening is scheduled, not yet completed

Thailand's Board of Investment said on September 25 that Infineon Technologies Manufacturing (Thailand) was preparing to formally open the new facility on October 1. Infineon separately lists an opening ceremony for its Bangkok manufacturing site on the same date, providing direct company confirmation of the schedule.

The facility is in Bang Bo, Samut Prakan, despite the company's use of “Bangkok” in the site name. As of September 27, the relevant fact for residents and businesses is that the opening remains a future event. Any assessment of its immediate local effect should therefore distinguish the ceremony and initial production ramp from the plant's eventual full scale.

The facility adds power-module manufacturing, testing and R&D

BOI says the promoted investment exceeds THB 48 billion and covers advanced power-module production, semiconductor testing and a research and development centre. Infineon describes the site as part of a broader effort to expand its manufacturing capacity for products used in electrification, energy systems and other high-value electronics.

The Samut Prakan operation has been designed to scale over time. That matters because the economic impact will depend on how quickly production lines, supplier relationships and technical functions are built out after the formal opening, not on the opening date alone.

More than 5,000 jobs is a full-expansion figure

The BOI's employment figure is explicitly linked to the project once it is fully expanded. The investment package also includes workforce development, technical training and cooperation with Thai universities, indicating that hiring is expected to broaden as the site grows.

For people considering Samut Prakan as a place to live or do business, this is a useful long-term employment signal, but it should not be treated as 5,000 immediate vacancies. Nor do the official announcements establish a direct increase in nearby home prices or rents; those would require separate market evidence after operations scale up.
