Cambodia denies rumor of a nationwide border closure and under-40 entry ban
Let’s explore this page together
The Chinese-language post had circulated a day earlier. It claimed that international arrivals in Phnom Penh had been halted, land-border controls would tighten from 26 May, and foreigners under 40 would be refused entry even if they held valid visas or business documents.
Immigration authorities said no age-based order had been issued
The General Department of Immigration rejected the claim and said immigration police had received no instruction to bar or restrict entry based on being under 40. Cambodia continued to apply its normal immigration procedures, including security checks aimed at illegal entry.
The department also said legitimate foreign visitors, investors, businesspeople, traders and migrant workers remained welcome subject to the rules applying to their entry. The viral post therefore did not describe a new nationwide age condition for admission to Cambodia.

The clarification did not reopen route-specific land borders
A nationwide denial and the status of one border crossing are separate questions. Thailand–Cambodia land crossings were subject to their own security restrictions, and UK travel advice still described crossings between the two countries as suspended in late September 2026.
For a traveler, the distinction is straightforward: the supposed under-40 ban was not an immigration rule, but an overland itinerary could still fail if the chosen checkpoint was closed. Passport, visa and other entry requirements also continued to apply according to nationality and travel status.
