Cambodia eVisa expands to A, B and C visas and switches certificates to QR codes

What changed on 1 August

Cambodia's official eVisa portal announced that online issuance had been expanded to three additional categories: Type A for diplomatic visas, Type B for official visas and Type C for courtesy visas. The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Thailand likewise lists A, B, C, E and T among the visa types that eligible applicants can obtain through the official online system.

The same effective date brought a change to the electronic certificate itself. Cambodia replaced the previous barcode with a QR code, with the official notice citing security and verification efficiency. The notice does not say that this change alters permitted stay periods, visa grounds or the process for extending a stay after entry.

Types T and E were not newly created by the August expansion. In a separate update dated 31 August 2026, the official eVisa portal states that Type E electronic visas are available to applicants from all countries.

What it means for most travellers and longer stays

The addition of A, B and C does not give ordinary travellers three new general-purpose visa choices. Those categories are designed for diplomatic, official and courtesy cases. Someone applying for a T or E visa is more likely to notice the revised certificate with its QR code than a change in their underlying visa category.

For longer stays, the scope of the announcement matters. Online issuance of an entry visa and an extension of stay inside Cambodia are separate questions. The August notices cover the eVisa service and certificate format; they do not announce that Type E extension rules have been replaced by a new online procedure. Anyone planning to remain long term should therefore verify the extension basis and current requirements that apply to their own case at the time of application.
