Cambodia registered 37 investment projects worth about $233m in August

Event date

Where the August total came from

The Council for the Development of Cambodia registered 27 of the 37 projects, representing about $198 million in stated capital and roughly 17,000 potential jobs. Capital and provincial investment sub-committees registered another 10 projects worth about $35 million, with around 6,000 potential jobs attached to them.

That puts the headline employment figure at approximately 23,000 jobs. It is a projected capacity linked to the registered projects, not a count of positions that already exist. The same distinction applies to the capital figure: registration records the size of the proposed investment at this stage, not the amount already spent.

Industry dominated the month

Around $209 million of the August capital was allocated to industrial projects, while agriculture and agro-industry accounted for about $24 million. By source of investment capital, China represented 44.02% of the total, Cambodia 39.13% and Singapore 10.38%.

The CDC also said that across the first eight months of 2026, industry remained the leading sector for attracting investment capital, while infrastructure and tourism recorded increases in registered capital. That gives useful national context, but it does not show how every province or property market performed.

Approval data is a pipeline measure, not realised investment

For an investor, the August release is best read as a monthly view of projects entering Cambodia's formal investment pipeline. It says something about the scale and sector mix of registrations, but it does not establish when the projects will be built, whether the full stated capital will be deployed, or what their eventual operating footprint will be.

That matters particularly for property decisions. Economy-wide project registrations cannot by themselves prove stronger housing demand, rising apartment prices or higher rental returns. Those conclusions require separate evidence on the relevant location, actual project delivery, sales, leasing activity and local demand.

The practical value of the August data is therefore narrower but still useful: it shows where registered investment activity was concentrated and provides a starting point for further due diligence. A specific business or property decision still needs to be tested against the individual project and its local market.
