CIMB Cambodia may suspend mobile banking without a KHR account

KHQR now requires both KHR and USD accounts

CIMB introduced the restriction in stages. From 30 April 2026, a customer holding only one currency account — KHR or USD — could no longer continue using KHQR in the CIMB Mobile Application. Other app functions remained available through 30 June, including balance checks, new account opening and payment transactions.

The July change goes further for customers who do not have a KHR account. CIMB says it will temporarily suspend all mobile-banking services in the app until the KHR account opening has been successfully completed. A customer who has only a KHR account can still use the mobile app, but KHQR remains unavailable because the service requires accounts in both currencies.

The bank's notice does not give a specific day in July for the second stage. The accurate timing is therefore simply “from July 2026”.

Why this matters for everyday banking

A CIMB customer who mainly uses a USD account should check whether a KHR account is already active before relying on the app for an important payment. Under the notice, missing the KHR account can affect much more than QR payments: it can temporarily block access to the bank's other mobile services as well.

The difference is important for people who use CIMB for recurring expenses, rent, transfers or business payments. Resolving the account requirement in advance reduces the chance of discovering the restriction when a time-sensitive transaction is due.

Customers of other Cambodian banks need to check their own bank's KHQR and mobile-banking terms. CIMB's notice is not evidence that the same dual-account requirement or suspension policy applies across the market.
