PPCBank customers can now scan JPQR codes in Japan

Event date

For customers who regularly travel, study or do business in Japan, the addition gives PPCBank users another way to handle everyday purchases without relying solely on cash or a separate card. It is a bank-specific rollout, however, and it only works where a merchant accepts the compatible JPQR code.

What PPCBank customers can actually use in Japan

PPCBank’s current cross-border payment page says Japanese JPQR payments are funded directly from a customer’s KHR account. The maximum is KHR 6 million per transaction and KHR 6 million in total per day, shown by the bank as roughly JPY 239,700. The number of transactions per day is listed as unlimited.

The bank currently shows the service fee as free. That does not by itself establish the exchange rate applied to a particular purchase, and the public service page reviewed for this article does not set out the conversion methodology. A customer comparing QR payment with a card or cash should therefore pay attention to the final KHR amount displayed before confirming the transaction.

Cambodia’s Japan QR link existed before this PPCBank rollout

The wider Cambodia–Japan QR payment connection was already in place before PPCBank’s June 2026 announcement. The National Bank of Cambodia officially launched Phase 1 on July 4, 2025, allowing Cambodian users to scan JPQR codes in Japan through Bakong or participating mobile banking applications.

PPCBank’s later announcement is best understood as an individual bank joining that existing payment corridor for its own customers. A national payment linkage still does not give every Cambodian account identical access, funding currency or transaction limits.
