Km 9 pumping station in Russey Keo reached about 90% completion
The station is designed to pump 30,000 cubic metres an hour
The Km 9 facility is being built in northern Phnom Penh as part of the city's rainwater drainage system. Reports published on 3–4 August put construction progress at roughly 90%.
The design includes four pumps: two rated at 9,000 cubic metres per hour each and two at 6,000 cubic metres per hour each. Together, the stated pumping capacity is 30,000 cubic metres per hour, equivalent to about 8.34 cubic metres per second.
That capacity describes the station itself, not a guarantee that nearby streets will remain flood-free. Performance during heavy rain also depends on how efficiently water reaches the facility through the drainage canals and can then be discharged onward.

Its role extends beyond the immediate Svay Pak area
Local officials said the station is intended to draw water from the Bak Touk and O Veng canals. Those channels form part of a wider drainage network, and authorities linked the project to water flows affecting Russey Keo as well as parts of Daun Penh and Tuol Kork.
For residents or families assessing homes in northern Phnom Penh, the project is relevant because it may strengthen local drainage capacity. It does not remove the need to look at a property's own flood history, the level of access roads and the condition of nearby canals, which can vary significantly within the same district.
August reports said the pipes were expected to be connected before Pchum Ben so that the station could begin discharging water to the river. Full completion of the construction works was targeted for November 2026.
A TVK Cambodia report published on 25 August said Russey Keo district officials had inspected construction progress the previous day while Tonle Sap water levels were rising. That later update did not confirm normal operation of the station. Until a separate commissioning notice appears, the pre-Pchum Ben timeline is best read as a project target instead of proof that the facility is already running.
