Cambodia's 2026 transport tax must be paid by 30 November

Event date

The GDT issued Notification No. 17324 on 22 May 2026 and continues to list it as valid. For a vehicle owner, the distinction is whether the vehicle already exists in the GDT transport-tax system or is being registered for this tax for the first time.

The 2026 payment window runs through 30 November

The collection period covers 1 June to 30 November 2026. This is an annual tax obligation for taxable means of transportation and should be kept separate from vehicle registration fees, technical inspection requirements and import duties, which follow their own rules.

The notification states that missing the deadline can result in additional tax equal to 100% of the tax due. The operative date for this annual payment is therefore 30 November, not simply the end of the calendar year.

Previously registered vehicles have a shorter process

A vehicle that is already recorded in the GDT transport-tax system does not require a new tax declaration form for the annual payment. The owner can use an identifying vehicle record for verification, such as the registration document, a transport-tax payment receipt or evidence from a previous year's payment.

Payment channels include GDT offices, provincial or district tax branches and partner commercial banks. Vehicles that have already been declared in earlier years can also be paid through the GDT Taxpayer App. GDT's electronic services include a dedicated means-of-transportation tax calculator, which matters because the amount is determined by the official classification of the specific vehicle rather than a single nationwide flat amount.

First-time registration requires VT 001 paperwork

A vehicle entering the transport-tax system for the first time follows a different procedure. The notice calls for two copies of form VT 001 together with documents identifying the vehicle and its owner; goods and passenger vehicles also require the relevant technical inspection certificate.

Foreign ownership does not by itself determine the paperwork. The vehicle's registration and tax status are what drive the process, and special registration categories can fall under separate rules. A recently imported, transferred or previously unrecorded vehicle should therefore be matched to its current GDT status before the owner relies on the simpler annual-payment route.
