Cambodia had 20,600 registered electric vehicles by the end of June

Cars accounted for 15,239 of the June total

The figures presented in July broke the 20,600 registered EVs into 15,239 electric cars, 862 electric three-wheelers and 4,499 electric motorcycles. Cambodia recorded 7,632 EV registrations during January-June 2026, roughly 136% above the same period in 2025.

Registration data is a measure of the recorded fleet, not of daily usage. It does not reveal how often those vehicles travel outside major urban areas, how many owners rely on home charging, or whether repair and charging services are distributed in line with the growing fleet.

The national total moved to 22,793 by the end of August

September reporting citing the Ministry of Public Works and Transport gave a newer snapshot: 22,793 registered electric vehicles at the end of August. That total consisted of 16,926 cars, 4,974 motorcycles and 893 three-wheelers.

The later figure supersedes 20,600 as the current nationwide count, while leaving the first-half growth story intact. It also shows that registrations continued to rise after June and did not stop at the mid-year milestone.

Charging is expanding, but availability remains local

Cambodianess reported that the national UnifyCharge system showed 460 EV charging machines across Cambodia as of September 15. That is useful evidence that charging infrastructure is expanding, but a countrywide count cannot tell a driver how practical an EV will be for a particular home, commute or intercity route.

For a long-term resident, the more useful checks are the chargers near the places they actually use, their connector types and power ratings, live availability and tariffs. The registration trend makes EV ownership more mainstream, but convenience still depends heavily on location and the vehicle chosen.
