Thailand flood update: Bangkok starts lifting disaster status by district
September 29 figures used separate reporting bases
Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported flooding across 29 provinces. Its provincial dataset covered 167 districts, 890 subdistricts and 5,077 villages, with 940,300 households and 2,602,309 people affected.
Bangkok was presented separately in the government summary, with 329,000 affected households across the capital's 50 districts. The Bangkok figure should not simply be added to the provincial household total as though both numbers came from one identical reporting base.
Conditions also varied sharply by location. Water was still rising in provinces including Nakhon Sawan, Suphan Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Chachoengsao, Sa Kaeo and Chon Buri, while levels were receding in Samut Prakan and several other areas.
For practical context, see Living in Thailand. This development also connects with Bangkok high-tide alert for eight areas ended on October 4.
Bangkok's recovery was uneven, and later totals moved again
On September 29, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt signed an order ending the disaster designation in 21 of the city's 50 districts. The city's assessment classified 21 districts as no longer affected, 14 as moderately affected and 15 as severely affected, leaving 29 districts under the disaster designation.
That administrative status is useful for understanding the official response, but it is not a street-by-street flood map. Anyone making a housing, commuting or travel decision still needed to check the exact address, access roads and local transport conditions.
The national picture also changed after September 29. By October 4, later DDPM figures reported by Thai media covered 27 provinces and Bangkok and 3,262,676 affected people. The movement in headline totals did not mean every area was improving or worsening at the same pace; water was falling in some places while rising in others.
