Flood disruption reached 143 Thai health facilities by October 4

Event date

The September 28 snapshot already showed widespread service disruption

The ministry's September 28 update covered 23 flood-affected provinces. Of the 49 health facilities affected at that point, 24 were operating normally, three had partially suspended services and 22 had stopped operating.

Rayong illustrated why the numbers mattered beyond damaged buildings. Rising water was restricting hospital operations and triggering patient transfers to other facilities. The ministry also set out eight emergency measures covering hospital readiness, referrals, medicines and supplies, support for vulnerable residents, flood protection for hospitals and preparations for recovery.

The situation changed substantially over the following six days

By October 4, the health ministry was reporting flooding in 25 provinces and 143 affected health facilities. Sixty-one were still providing services, while 82 had stopped; 245 patients had been moved as part of the response.

Those figures make the September 28 closure count a historical snapshot rather than a current directory of available care. Conditions were changing by province, and a facility's operating status could improve or deteriorate between national updates.

A national total cannot tell you whether your facility is open today

Anyone depending on a scheduled appointment, repeat treatment or regular medicine collection needs the status of the specific hospital or clinic, not only the national total. The ministry had already advised people to follow facility announcements and confirm service arrangements directly because operating models were being adjusted to local flood conditions.

That distinction became more important as the number of affected facilities climbed. The October 4 figures show the scale of disruption, but they do not establish that every facility listed earlier remained closed or that every service was available at the same location.
