Pattaya reopens contractor selection for South Naklua stormwater drainage

The 17 August notice puts the project back into procurement

The city issued a new electronic bidding notice for construction of the drainage system in Naklua, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi. It covers the corridor from Sukhumvit–Pattaya Soi 34/1 toward South Naklua.

For residents and people considering a home in Naklua, the distinction between procurement and completion is important. A bidding notice means the city is seeking a construction contractor. It does not establish that street works have started, and it does not show that the planned system is already handling heavy-rain runoff.

As of the preparation of this article, the accessible city procurement register did not surface a separate award notice naming the winner of this specific main construction tender. The project should therefore still be treated as being in procurement unless Pattaya City publishes a later award or contract-stage notice.

The project has already been cancelled and retendered once

This is not the first procurement round. Pattaya City published an earlier construction bidding notice on 5 May and cancelled that round on 12 June. A new draft notice appeared on 21 July, followed by another draft on 10 August and the final bidding notice on 17 August.

The city has also procured construction supervision separately. A winner for that supervision assignment was announced on 13 July. That should not be confused with an award of the main construction package: the supervision service and the physical construction are separate contracts.

The August development is therefore meaningful because it moves the construction procurement forward again after the earlier cancellation. It is not evidence that the drainage system has been built or that an operating date has been set.

Current drainage still matters more for housing decisions

The project is intended to improve stormwater drainage along part of the Naklua corridor, but its real effect can only be judged after construction and commissioning. Until then, current conditions remain the basis for a housing decision in the area.

That means paying attention to how the immediate street and access roads behave during heavy rain, where water tends to collect, whether access to main roads is affected, and what drainage or flood-protection measures the building itself has. The city project can be treated as a possible future improvement, not as an existing benefit.

Once construction actually starts, nearby residents may also face temporary traffic restrictions, noise or access disruption. The eventual contract, work schedule and construction plan will determine the scale and timing of those effects.
