International Schools in Pattaya: Areas, Commutes and Admissions

School First, Area Second: Why the Order Matters in Pattaya

A beachfront condo can be a perfectly good Pattaya home and still be the wrong family base. Several schools compared under a “Pattaya” search sit inland, while others are in Bang Lamung or the Si Racha–Bo Win corridor. School choice therefore changes the housing map before a lease is signed.

Start with the child’s actual entry point: age, current curriculum, language of instruction and the next academic transition. A four-year-old needs an available early-years place; a 15-year-old may be entering a two-year examination pathway where subjects and timing matter far more than campus appearance. Confirm the seat as well — an enquiry, application and application fee are not the same thing as an offer.

Only then does the housing search become meaningful. A short temporary stay can preserve flexibility while admissions and transport are being finalised. For any address that survives the shortlist, test the morning run, normal dismissal and the journey after activities if that will be part of the weekly routine.

Where Pattaya's International Schools Are — and Which Areas Are Actually Close

“Pattaya international school” is a broad search label, not a precise map category. Tara Pattana is in Nongprue, Bang Lamung, on Pattanakarn Road. That keeps it relatively connected to urban Pattaya and gives families in Jomtien, Pratumnak, central Pattaya and the eastern suburbs a sensible route to test before they decide whether they need to move farther inland.

Regents is in Pong, and the school itself describes the campus as roughly 10 km outside Pattaya. The Route 7/36 corridor and the eastern side of the city therefore become more relevant than they look on a beach-focused property search. Regents also operates a zoned door-to-door bus service. Coverage and pricing are tied to the exact home address; a neighbourhood name alone is not enough.

Rugby School Thailand is farther inland at Khao Mai Kaew in Bang Lamung. It serves ages 2–18, with boarding available from Year 6. A family committed to Jomtien or central Pattaya needs to treat the commute as a major part of the decision; a family happy to live inland, or one using boarding for an older child, is solving a different logistical problem.

Highgate International School Thailand sits near Siam Country Club. Its Pre-Prep and Junior schools are operating in 2026/27, while Senior School entry is planned from August 2027. That timeline matters: a future section of the school should not be treated as an already available place for an older child today.

International School Eastern Seaboard is in Bo Win, Si Racha. It belongs in this comparison because many relocating families work along the Eastern Seaboard, but it should not be presented as a central Pattaya school. For a household tied to Bo Win, Si Racha or nearby industrial estates, living closer to that corridor can make more sense than accepting two long cross-region journeys every school day.

The practical map is therefore built around the family’s anchor points: campus, workplace, preferred home area and the hours at which each journey happens. Straight-line distance is useful for an initial filter; the school-run route is what determines whether the arrangement still feels reasonable in November, not just during a weekend viewing.

Pattaya and Eastern Seaboard Schools: What to Compare Before Applying

This table does not rank schools. It is a quick filter for options that do not fit your child's age, location, admissions process or daily commute.

Option 1 of 5

Tara Pattana International School

Location
Nongprue, Bang Lamung; closer to urban Pattaya than several large inland campuses.
Age / stages
Early years through Sixth Form, following a British pathway to IGCSE and A Level.
Admissions
Application and age-appropriate review; current requirements and places are confirmed by admissions.
Commute check
Test the school-run route from Jomtien, Pratumnak, central Pattaya and East Pattaya.
Budget note
An official 2026/27 fee PDF is available, while the main fees page still carries a waiting notice; confirm the current schedule before paying.
Option 2 of 5

Regents International School Pattaya

Location
Pong, about 10 km outside Pattaya, near the Route 7/36 corridor.
Age / stages
Ages 2–18; IGCSE followed by a choice between A Levels and the IB Diploma Programme.
Admissions
Year-round applications subject to places; non-selective, with an age-appropriate assessment of learning needs.
Commute check
A zoned door-to-door bus operates; confirm the exact address, zone and price before leasing a home.
Budget note
2026/27 tuition, application and enrolment charges are published; senior examination fees are additional.
Option 3 of 5

Rugby School Thailand

Location
Khao Mai Kaew, Bang Lamung; a countryside campus well inland from Pattaya's beach districts.
Age / stages
Ages 2–18; day school throughout, boarding from Year 6, with a British pathway through IGCSE and A Levels.
Admissions
Selective admissions considering academic potential, English level, interests and age-appropriate assessment.
Commute check
Model the trip from central Pattaya, Jomtien and southern districts; boarding changes the equation for older pupils.
Budget note
2026/27 schedules separately list tuition, boarding, a non-refundable acceptance fee and a refundable deposit.
Option 4 of 5

Highgate International School Thailand

Location
Near Siam Country Club in Chonburi, inland from Pattaya's main urban strip.
Age / stages
Pre-Prep and Junior are open in 2026/27; Senior School is due to open from August 2027.
Admissions
Application, documents, age-appropriate assessment and interview; assessment can be in person or online.
Commute check
Test both the morning run and the return after activities; the newer campus can shift the family's housing map eastward.
Budget note
The 2026/27 fee schedule covers the stages already open; future Senior School entry follows a separate launch and fee timetable.
Option 5 of 5

International School Eastern Seaboard

Location
Bo Win, Si Racha; an Eastern Seaboard option rather than a central Pattaya school.
Age / stages
Pre-K through Grade 12, with an American programme and the IB Diploma in the final years.
Admissions
School records and supporting documents are required; secondary applicants may have additional assessment and course planning.
Commute check
Pair it with a Si Racha or Bo Win living pattern instead of treating it as a long daily run from central Pattaya.
Budget note
The official site carries a 2026/27 fee schedule; confirm the place and full invoice for the exact grade before committing.

Child Age, Curriculum and the Next Transition: What to Filter Before Campus Tours

A campus tour can make every option look possible. Curriculum timing is less forgiving. Before visiting, establish the child’s actual entry grade, previous language of instruction and the qualification they are likely to need next. For a five-year-old, continuity may mean a comfortable transition into primary. For a 15-year-old, it can mean avoiding a move into the middle of a two-year examination course.

The main Pattaya-area schools do not all lead through the same senior pathway. Tara Pattana follows a British route through IGCSE and A Level. Rugby School Thailand also runs a British programme through IGCSE and A Levels. Regents offers IGCSE followed by a choice between A Levels and the IB Diploma Programme in Sixth Form. Highgate is building a British pathway too, but its 2026/27 intake is limited to the younger sections, so families with older children need to match their plans to the actual opening year.

ISE is a different proposition: an American international school in Bo Win with the IB Diploma in Grades 11 and 12. That distinction may matter more than school branding for a family expecting another international move. The decision turns on whether subjects, credits and final qualifications remain portable to the next system the child may enter.

Entry becomes increasingly sensitive as students get older. Rugby, for example, states that new students cannot join Years 11 or 13 because those are the second years of two-year IGCSE and A Level courses. Other schools may set different rules, but the principle travels well: ask whether the child can enter the specific academic pathway on the intended date, not only whether the school accepts applications.

School Bus or Car: How to Test the Commute Before It Becomes a Daily Problem

A school commute is not one travel-time number. Morning traffic, normal dismissal and the post-activity journey can produce very different days from the same address. Add rain, roadworks and multiple bus stops and a route that looks easy on a weekend map may feel completely different once it repeats five days a week.

For school transport, understand the service model before choosing the home. Regents, for example, publishes a zoned door-to-door service and confirms coverage and price once it has the exact address. With any school, ask for the current bus map or service area, the likely first pickup, the expected drop-off and whether a late bus operates after activities. Being inside a bus zone is much less useful if the child is collected exceptionally early.

Families also need the small rules that are easy to miss during an admissions call. Can you pay for one-way transport? What happens if you move after the first month? Can a parent collect the child directly on selected days? Is there a separate service after sports or clubs? These details determine whether the bus actually removes driving from the family schedule or merely shifts it to late afternoons.

If you expect to drive, a weekday test is more valuable than repeated route estimates. Leave at the time you would genuinely leave on a school morning, then repeat the return after normal dismissal. For Pong, Khao Mai Kaew and the Siam Country Club area, look at the feeder roads and junctions as well as the main highway; the slow part of the journey is often not the longest stretch.

Two children can change the calculation again. Different schools, different finishing times or different after-school activities turn a simple home-to-campus route into a family timetable. Model the full day, including what happens when one parent is unavailable. A commute is sustainable when the routine still works on an ordinary difficult Tuesday, not only when both adults are free.

Pattaya International School Admissions: Documents, Assessment and When a Place Is Actually Secured

Admissions usually starts with a place check, not a payment. Tell the school the child’s date of birth, current grade, intended start date and any relevant learning history. The first useful answer is whether the school is genuinely considering entrants for that year group and date, before the family invests time and money in a full application.

The application then brings the documents together. Requirements vary, but identity documents, a photo and recent school reports are common. Highgate explicitly asks for a passport, Thai ID or birth certificate, a photograph and a previous school report where applicable. ISE lists transcripts or reports, a health form, passport-size photos and any formal evaluations. Previous English-language or learning support should be disclosed early because it helps the school decide what provision it can realistically offer.

Assessment models differ. Regents describes itself as non-selective but still uses an age-appropriate assessment to understand learning needs. Rugby is explicitly selective and considers academic potential, English level and broader interests or character. Highgate uses age-specific assessment, ranging from a family interview for younger children to more formal English and maths work for older applicants, with online assessment available when needed.

An offer is the point at which the process becomes contractual, but even then read the conditions. Rugby requires families to accept the offer, agree to the terms and pay the acceptance fee and deposit within the stated period to secure enrolment. Highgate also ties the reserved place to signed acceptance and payment of its enrolment fee. Regents issues a formal offer after assessment and asks the family to accept it in writing. An application form and application fee are not substitutes for that stage.

Mid-year entry follows the same logic. Regents accepts applications year-round, Highgate says most year groups can take students during the year, and Rugby may admit at later term points when places exist but restricts entry to certain examination years. “Year-round admissions” is therefore a process description, not a promise that the exact seat your child needs is available.

What School Really Costs: Tuition Is Only One Line in the Family Budget

Annual tuition is not a reliable proxy for total school cost unless you know what sits inside it. The first year also needs its own calculation because application, enrolment or acceptance charges, deposits, transport and support can materially change the cash required before term starts.

Regents publishes a 2026/27 application fee of THB 7,500 and an enrolment fee of THB 107,000 for Years 1–13. Discounted annual tuition runs from THB 616,550 in Years 1–2 to THB 854,050 in Years 12–13, subject to its annual-payment timing. Senior examination fees are additional, with a published THB 35,000–65,000 range depending on subject choices.

Rugby lists annual tuition of THB 736,000 for Years 1–2, THB 868,000 for Years 7–8, THB 988,000 for Years 10–11 and THB 999,000 for Years 12–13. Its application fee is THB 5,500, acceptance fee THB 200,000 and refundable student deposit THB 100,000. Standard tuition includes textbooks, meals, the core extracurricular programme, an annual residential trip and common external exam entries; additional English or learning support is charged separately.

Tara Pattana currently has a publishing mismatch: its main fees page still says it is waiting for the 2026/27 schedule, while an official 2026/2027 school document is already available. That document lists annual tuition from THB 273,000 for Nursery to THB 665,000 for Years 12–13 and a THB 90,000 enrolment fee. Highgate’s current schedule applies to the younger sections already open, from THB 375,000 for half-day Pre-Nursery/Nursery to THB 795,000 for Years 4–6, with separate application, enrolment and security charges.

These figures were checked against official school materials on 20 September 2026. Before accepting a place, use the invoice for the exact year group and start date; that is where first-year one-offs, transport and any support charges become clear.

How to Link School, Housing and Move Date Without Three Expensive Mistakes

The least fragile relocation sequence starts with a school shortlist, not a lease. Contact two or three admissions teams, establish whether the required year group is genuinely open to new pupils, complete the necessary assessment and get the offer conditions in writing. That turns the housing search from a city-wide guess into a smaller set of realistic catchments.

Transport comes before the long-term address. Test the school bus or driving route from an actual building, not from the label “Jomtien” or “East Pattaya”. If the right home has not emerged yet, a few weeks of temporary accommodation can be cheaper than spending a year compensating for the wrong location.

Three mistakes repeatedly inflate the move: signing a one-year lease before the school place is secured; choosing the home mainly for beach access or lifestyle and underestimating the school run; and treating tuition as the whole education budget while missing deposits, one-off fees, transport or language support.

A mid-year move can still work because several schools take applications during the academic year. What changes is certainty: places may be limited, assessment still takes time and examination-year entry can be restricted. When the calendar is tight, keeping the housing decision flexible is usually easier than trying to make a school timetable bend around a lease already signed.

Which Family Scenario Fits Your Area, Child Age and Commute

Suggested next stepStart with campuses that have a workable urban route and ask about transport for the exact address. Keep farther inland options only if the school is more important than the preferred home area.

Do not commit to the condo until the place and likely morning pickup are clear.

Suggested next stepCompare the exact senior pathways and entry points at Regents, Rugby and other suitable schools, then choose housing around the campus and parents' work routes.

For a teenager, the exact programme and a viable entry point matter more than the overall school brand.

Suggested next stepAsk about the exact year group and earliest realistic start date first, then complete assessment before choosing permanent housing where online assessment is available.

Year-round admissions means you can apply; it does not guarantee the seat you need.

Suggested next stepInclude ISE and other schools closer to the family's daily geography instead of limiting the search to names most often marketed around Pattaya.

A school closer to central Pattaya can be less practical when both home and work are already farther east.

Frequently Asked Questions About International Schools in Pattaya

Which Pattaya international school works best for a family that wants to live near the beach?
Because the home and campus may sit in very different parts of the region, no single beach-family answer covers every case. From Jomtien or Pratumnak, start by testing genuinely reachable options such as Tara Pattana, then compare them with inland campuses on curriculum and commute. Regents is in Pong, Rugby in Khao Mai Kaew and Highgate near Siam Country Club. A beach address can still work with a farther school, but only after the morning route and transport arrangement have been tested.
How much does an international school in Pattaya cost per year?
The spread is wide even within the same academic year. Official 2026/27 schedules run from roughly THB 273,000 for Nursery at Tara Pattana to close to THB 1 million for senior day tuition at Rugby, with other schools sitting at different points depending on year group. Tuition is not the same as first-year cash cost: application or enrolment charges, deposits, transport and sometimes language support can sit on top. Compare a full invoice for the exact grade, not a headline number.
Can a child join a Pattaya international school mid-year?
Several schools admit during the academic year, but the answer depends on the exact year group and start date. Regents accepts applications year-round, Highgate says most year groups can join during the year, and Rugby may take pupils at later entry points when places exist. Rugby also states that new students cannot join Years 11 or 13 because those are midway through two-year examination programmes. Confirm the specific seat before building the move around a general admissions policy.
What documents are needed to apply to an international school in Pattaya?
Most schools ask for the child's identity document, a photo and recent school reports. Depending on age, they may also request transcripts, examination results, health forms or formal evaluations. Highgate explicitly lists a passport or birth document, photo and previous school report; ISE also asks for school records and a health form. Get the selected school's current checklist before paying the application fee, particularly if documents need translation.
Do school buses serve Jomtien, Naklua and central Pattaya?
Schools use different transport systems and coverage is address-specific. Regents officially operates a zoned door-to-door service around Pattaya and confirms the zone and price once it has the family's address. For other schools, request the current-year transport map; an old route image or a property agent's recollection is not reliable enough. Pickup time and late transport after activities can matter as much as whether the bus exists.
Should we choose the school or the home first in Pattaya?
For a school-age child, narrow the school options and establish a credible admissions path first. Then choose housing within the geography that remains and test the route on a weekday. If the move is urgent, temporary accommodation usually preserves more options than a one-year lease signed before the school offer. The main exception is a household tied to a fixed workplace location; in that case the work address becomes the first school filter.
What if my child needs English-language support?
Raise it early in the admissions conversation, before enrolment. Regents uses assessment to understand the support a child may need; Rugby publishes separate charges for additional English and learning support; ISE also operates an English-as-an-additional-language programme. A support programme does not mean every level can be accommodated in every year group. Ask for assessment, confirmation of the provision available and its cost before accepting the offer.

The costly mistake is often a very ordinary one: the family falls in love with a neighbourhood and then tries to make the school fit around it. I'd reverse the order, secure a credible place first, and drive the route twice — once in the normal morning run and once after activities. An extra fifteen minutes each way sounds minor on a map, but over a school year it becomes a large amount of a child's time. I also look at the first invoice as a whole, because tuition alone rarely tells you what the first year actually costs.
