Bali's 11 Electric Buses Now Set for November Trial Service
In brief: Bali has moved the planned passenger launch of 11 Trans Sarbagita electric buses from October to early November 2026. An October inauguration is on the calendar, but commuters will have to wait for an operating schedule before treating the service as an available option.
The provincial Transportation Agency's head, I Kadek Mudarta, outlined the revised timeline on 7 October. All 11 vehicles have reached Bali, while the administrative process for transferring the fleet and arrangements for its launch are still being completed.
An inauguration is scheduled before passenger service
The province plans a ceremony for 22 October. Public operations are targeted for 1 November, although officials have described the timing as tentative. The buses have not yet entered the announced trial service, and the ceremony should not be confused with a first day of scheduled passenger journeys.
The initial deployment will also serve as an operational assessment. The agency wants to learn about running costs, maintenance needs and passenger use before deciding whether to expand the fleet. Officials have said the service is intended to continue beyond the first trial period, but that commitment does not establish its eventual frequency.
The first corridor will connect Denpasar with southern Bali
The planned route follows Trans Sarbagita Corridor 1, starting at GOR Ngurah Rai in Denpasar, passing Udayana University and continuing towards the Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park, commonly known as GWK. Project partner Global Green Growth Institute describes it as a roughly 53-kilometre round trip.
Charging facilities are part of the preparations. Six chargers have been installed across two locations, with three at the Bali Transportation Agency depot and three near GOR Ngurah Rai. The infrastructure provides a basis for operating the fleet; it does not, by itself, confirm the first passenger departure.
The missing details for regular commuters
There is still no final fare or published service frequency in the available launch reports. Earlier statements from the agency also left open whether passengers would ride free during the trial. Those details will determine whether the new buses work for routine trips between Denpasar, the university and southern neighbourhoods.
People comparing areas to live in or planning a daily commute should therefore distinguish the announced corridor from a dependable transport connection. The route's real value will be clearer once stop information, operating hours and headways are released and the buses are actually carrying passengers.
