Long-stay routes for living in Bali

Do not look for the “best Bali visa” before you have named your real situation. Family, a retirement scenario, remote activity, travel out of Indonesia and property purchase are not one task. A sound route starts by separating those questions, not by promising that one status will solve everything.

Which route should be checked first?

Start with facts that cannot be replaced by a feeling: who is the main applicant, whether a spouse or children are involved, what activity is planned, whether travel out is needed, and where housing enters the question. Current official lists include family E31, second-home E33, elderly E33F and remote-worker E33G labels. But a category label is not personal approval: applicability, documents and the next step must be checked through the live official route.

Short answer

Build your route in two layers. The first is personal facts: family, age or professional context, proposed activity and travel. The second is administrative review: the current official category, basis, documents, and separate questions about extension or re-entry. Keep property beside this map, not inside it: rights in an asset are checked through their own legal track.

Why a universal “visa for living” is a poor starting point

People usually think about a move as a whole: living on the island, keeping a familiar work rhythm, travelling sometimes and finding a home. Public procedures do not assess that broad picture; they assess separate bases and records. “I want to live in Bali” is useful for choosing an area, but it is not enough for an immigration route. Make it more precise before the first enquiry.

Name the route’s real anchor

The official list contains different category families. For example, E31 relates to family relationships, E33 to second-home, E33F to elderly applicants and E33G to remote workers. These names help frame the right question, but do not answer it. Do not let them replace facts about the person, relationship, planned activity, sponsor or documents.

Family is not an attachment to the main applicant

When several people are moving, begin with a small map: who is the main applicant, what relationship a spouse or child has, and how it is evidenced. This is better than promising to “put everyone in one package”. It immediately shows which questions belong to a family relationship and which belong to separate activity, school, housing or property rights.

Activity needs its own question

Even where a category has a clear market-facing name, do not turn it yourself into permission for any work. Describe who pays, where the client or employer is located, whether a local company is involved, and what you will actually do. Only then does it make sense to compare the live official route. Otherwise “remote work” becomes a vague phrase on which a move cannot be built.

Put travel plans on the calendar separately

The first international trip out is not a small detail to solve at the airport. The official East Jakarta page describes Izin Masuk Kembali as a separate permission for ITAS or ITAP holders who wish to leave and return while retaining status. It does not mean that it applies to every case; it means the question should be asked before buying a ticket.

Property runs on a parallel, not visa, track

Having a basis to stay does not automatically make a property a suitable purchase. A house, villa or unit has its own rights, address, documents, contractual structure and risks. You can discuss areas and build a shortlist in parallel, but you cannot choose a transaction structure from an immigration-category name. This needs a separate property and rights review.

Decision steps

  1. Record facts, not the desired duration

Record the main applicant, family, activity, planned travel and housing’s role in the move.

  2. Separate independent questions

Create separate lines for family relationship, activity, entry and stay, departure, and property rights.

  3. Check the current category

Match your facts to the current official category name, its documents and available next action immediately before applying.

  4. Check the first departure early

If you plan to leave Indonesia, make re-entry an independent question before purchasing a ticket.

  5. Open a separate property review

For a property you like, collect its documents, address and rights structure separately from immigration material.

FAQ

Which long-stay visa is best for Bali?

Without personal facts, this is a poor question. Separate family relationship, age-related scenario, activity, travel and housing first; then check the live official category that relates to your situation.

Does E33G mean that any remote work is allowed?

No; do not make that inference from a label. Describe the actual activity and check it separately through the current official route.

Can every family member be put under one status?

Do not begin with that assumption. Each family member can have an evidenceable relationship and a separate question for the current procedure.

If a status is long-term, can I freely leave and return?

Do not treat that as automatic. Re-entry for ITAS or ITAP holders is described as a separate question; check it before travel.
