Ngurah Rai Airport recorded 15.5 million passenger movements through August 2026

In brief: Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport recorded 15.5 million passenger movements between January and August 2026, including 10 million on international services. Figures released on 13 October have since put the January–September total at 17.6 million.

The eight-month figures were announced by airport operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia at the end of September. They provide a clearer picture of how heavily Bali relies on air connections, but passenger movements and international visitor arrivals are different measures.

International flights accounted for most of the traffic

Of the 15.5 million movements recorded through August, 10 million were on international routes and 5.5 million on domestic services. The airport also reported approximately 94,000 aircraft movements, split between 52,000 international and 42,000 domestic. Management put average daily passenger traffic at roughly 64,000 movements.

One person can be counted on more than one journey, and the airport totals include both directions of travel. Immigration figures cited alongside the report recorded about 4.7 million foreign tourist arrivals through Ngurah Rai during the same eight months. That is a separate count and cannot be substituted for the airport's overall passenger figure.

The busiest links were to Singapore and Jakarta

At the end of August, Ngurah Rai had 65 routes: 41 international and 24 domestic. Singapore accounted for around 1.7 million passenger movements, more than any other international destination. On the domestic network, Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport was the largest connection, with roughly 2.5 million.

For someone based in Bali and travelling frequently for work or family, those connections may be particularly relevant. Still, a busy route doesn't necessarily offer a suitable departure time, short onward connection or affordable fare for a particular trip.

There was also a change inside the airport itself. An international–domestic terminal transfer bridge began operating on 17 August 2026, with the operator presenting it as a way to make connections easier. The passenger report does not establish a universal time saving for travellers using it.

September figures have already overtaken the snapshot

A further airport update issued on 13 October reported approximately 17.6 million passenger movements for January–September 2026. That doesn't invalidate the earlier 15.5 million figure; it extends the reporting period by one month. Any account of the airport's year-to-date traffic now needs to distinguish between the two.

Neither total indicates how long security or immigration queues will take on a given day. Nor can an island-wide airport figure establish rental demand in a particular neighbourhood. Travellers and long-term residents will get more actionable information from specific routes, flight schedules and the journey to the airport.
