One-way traffic proposed for a two-kilometre stretch in Berawa
In brief: On 14 September 2026, Badung's transport agency said it had submitted a plan to make approximately two kilometres of Jalan Pantai Berawa one-way. The proposal has not been presented as an operating traffic rule, and no trial date was announced.
For people living in Berawa, the question is less about the headline promise of smoother traffic and more about which journeys might change. Jalan Pantai Berawa serves a busy part of North Kuta, where congestion has prompted the district transport agency to look at a different way of managing vehicle movements.
Police coordination and a test phase are still required
Badung transport chief Anak Agung Gde Rahmadi told Bali Post on 14 September that the proposal had been referred to the Bali Police traffic directorate. Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa had also been informed. The idea is to allow vehicles to travel in only one direction along a stretch of around two kilometres, reducing opposing traffic movements and, officials hope, easing queues.
The agency described a process involving coordination with the police, a trial and an assessment before any permanent arrangement is introduced. The September report did not specify when testing would start, how long it would last or which direction vehicles would be allowed to travel. No subsequent official confirmation of this particular scheme taking effect had been established by 14 October. Claims that the road has already switched to one-way operation therefore go beyond what the confirmed announcement supports.
Access to homes and businesses may change as well as traffic flow
A one-way system can make a congested segment easier to drive through while changing the route needed to reach a particular address. A resident travelling against the permitted direction could have to use neighbouring streets. The effect on commute times, deliveries and access to individual properties will depend on the eventual turning restrictions and the connections at either end of the road.
That is why the proposed change should not yet be built into a rental decision or a daily journey estimate. Drivers need the final traffic plan and on-street instructions before adjusting their routes. For someone comparing places to live in Berawa, current travel times remain the firmer basis for a decision; any improvement from the proposal has yet to be demonstrated in a trial.
