Bali's 2026 school upgrade programme covers 401 campuses

In brief: Indonesia's Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has earmarked approximately Rp272.66 billion for upgrades at 401 schools across Bali in 2026. The funding covers institutions at different education levels; it is not a report that every project has been finished.

The figures were announced by Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti on 2 October during a visit to SD Negeri 15 Dangin Puri in Denpasar. The programme reaches districts and municipalities throughout the province, with renovation work prioritised according to the condition of school buildings.

More than twice as many schools are covered as in 2025

Bali's allocation has increased from roughly Rp156.96 billion for 188 schools in 2025 to Rp272.66 billion for 401 schools in 2026. Those totals describe the scale of government support, not an equal grant for each campus. Individual projects have different building needs and budgets.

The work is intended to improve learning spaces and other school facilities. A place in the programme confirms planned support, but it does not establish that the upgraded rooms are already available to pupils.

Denpasar's 26 schools have a Rp18.89bn allocation

Denpasar accounts for 26 of the schools and about Rp18.89 billion of the 2026 funding, compared with nine schools and roughly Rp6.14 billion a year earlier. Badung regency has a separate allocation of approximately Rp16.69 billion for 22 schools.

At SD Negeri 15 Dangin Puri, a grant of around Rp478 million is being used for four classrooms, the school grounds and toilet facilities. That example makes the programme more tangible for local parents, although other participating schools may require very different improvements.

A renovation grant does not set the first day of usable classrooms

The ministry says the work is being undertaken in stages, giving particular attention to schools with serious damage. Its 2 October statement described conditions at Indraprasta Kindergarten in Kuta, where leaking roofs, deteriorating building elements and repeated flooding had affected the premises. The available announcements do not provide one completion date for all 401 schools.

Parents comparing schools should therefore distinguish funding approval from current classroom conditions. A school's management can explain which rooms are in use, whether construction is continuing and how lessons will be arranged while work takes place. The announcements also do not establish that international schools are automatically included in the programme.
