Kuta pedestrian upgrade is set to extend towards Kartika Plaza
In brief: Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa said on 12 October 2026 that sidewalk improvements in Kuta would continue towards Jalan Kartika Plaza once the beachfront phase is finished; this is a commitment to a future phase, not an announcement that construction has begun on Kartika Plaza.
For people living or running a business in Kuta, the distinction is significant. The local government's ambitions include better walking routes, parking provision and access around the district, but only part of that programme is currently under construction.
Work is already under way along Jalan Pantai Kuta
The first phase focuses on the eastern side of the road by Kuta Beach. Badung's administration confirmed the project during a site inspection in July. A 6 September report by Bali Post described approximately 1.3 kilometres of work between the Hard Rock and Pullman hotels, with the sidewalk designed to reach about 3.5 metres in width.
The scheme also includes landscaping, seating and space beneath the pavement for utility lines. At the time of the September report, the target for completing this section was December 2026. That remains a reported target, not evidence that the section is finished. The regent's October remarks did not provide a fresh completion percentage.
An earlier projection put Kartika Plaza in 2028
Speaking on 12 October, Adi Arnawa said the improvements would move beyond the beachfront towards Jalan Kartika Plaza after the current work is complete. He also identified parking facilities and easier access as priorities for the wider Kuta area. He did not give a new start date for the Kartika Plaza phase.
There is an earlier indication of timing. In September, a Badung public works official said similar improvements on Kartika Plaza were envisaged for 2028, potentially with a different sidewalk width. That was a projection, and the October statement did not turn it into a confirmed construction timetable. The precise section to be rebuilt and detailed arrangements for the next phase have not been specified in the latest announcement.
What nearby residents and businesses can rely on now
Better pedestrian space could eventually make short journeys around Kuta more pleasant. Whether a particular shopfront, apartment building or rental property benefits will depend on the connections between sidewalks, road crossings and the eventual layout of parking and vehicle access.
Those details are not yet available for Kartika Plaza. Anyone assessing an address in the area should therefore judge its current walkability and access on their own merits. The planned extension offers a sense of the district's direction, but it is too early to attribute a specific property-price increase or a completed transport improvement to it.
