Bangli and Buleleng face Bali's highest drought alert for 11–20 October
In brief: Indonesia's meteorological agency, BMKG, lists Bangli and Buleleng at its highest meteorological drought warning level for 11–20 October 2026, with lower warning categories elsewhere in Bali.
For residents, the immediate issue is how their water supply would cope with an interruption. A regional rainfall warning cannot establish whether an individual home will lose water, when that might happen or what it would cost.
Three warning levels, not one island-wide condition
Bangli and Buleleng are listed under Awas, the highest of BMKG's three drought warning categories. The next level, Siaga, covers Badung, Gianyar and Tabanan regencies and Denpasar city. Jembrana, Karangasem and Klungkung appear under Waspada, the lowest warning tier.
BMKG's national climate analysis dated 13 October also includes parts of Bali in its drought warnings for the middle ten days of the month. The warning concerns rainfall scarcity; it is not an assessment of each local water network or well.
Rain is still possible during that period. Bali's disaster management agency, BPBD, said in its 11 October bulletin that the island generally remained in the dry season, while allowing for light rain in several regencies during 14–16 and 17–20 October. The same bulletin carries the drought warning, so an isolated shower is not evidence that the wider risk has ended. Updated BMKG and BPBD notices remain the relevant guide as conditions change.
Water conservation needs a property-level plan
BPBD advises people to use water sparingly and avoid activities that could start fires, including burning rubbish or vegetation and discarding cigarette ends carelessly.
A useful response for a tenant or owner is to establish the home's actual water source and what would happen if its main supply stopped. A storage tank is worth discussing with the landlord or manager in terms of its working condition and how it is replenished. A rental listing's assurance of reliable water leaves those operational questions unanswered.
There is no basis in a regional warning alone for estimating the duration or cost of a household interruption. That requires information about the property's supply arrangements. Residents can reduce unnecessary water use while making those enquiries, without assuming every home in the same regency faces identical circumstances.
