Diponegoro Street drainage works in Singaraja reach 27% completion
In brief: Buleleng councillors inspected the drainage and streetscape project beside Pasar Anyar market on 12 October 2026; they recorded 27% physical progress and raised concerns about parking, vendors and the connection to existing drainage channels.
Pasar Anyar is a busy part of Singaraja, in northern Bali. Construction here affects the everyday movement of shoppers, deliveries and people who live or work around Diponegoro Street. The project also carries a longer-term expectation: better drainage in an area where standing water has been a concern.
December deadline remains a target, not a completion report
The Buleleng Regency Council's second and third commissions visited the site on 12 October to examine the quality and timing of the work. Their published account puts physical progress at 27% on the day of the inspection. It does not state that the project has been finished or that the contractual deadline has changed.
The contract is valued at IDR 4,749,733,000. CV Cadudasa Pratama is the construction contractor, while CV Manca Geni oversees the work. The stated construction period runs from 28 August to 17 December 2026.
There is no reliable basis in the inspection report for calling the project late solely because it was 27% complete. That would require a comparison with the approved schedule for each stage, which the report does not provide.
Market activity and old drains pose two different challenges
Councillors identified parked vehicles and trading activity around the worksite as obstacles to construction. Those issues matter immediately to people using the street, but the council did not publish a detailed traffic-closure schedule or specify when deliveries and parking might be restricted. Anyone making regular trips to Pasar Anyar should allow for conditions to vary as work advances.
The other concern is what happens beneath and beyond the newly built sections. Local newspaper Koran Buleleng reported that commission chair Wayan Masdana wanted officials to examine the gradient of the channels and whether water could drain towards the sea. Linking new construction to the older drainage network is critical to its eventual performance; an attractive finished street would not, by itself, establish that flooding problems had been resolved.
For nearby residents and businesses, 17 December is therefore a contract date to monitor, not a date on which improved flood protection can already be assumed. The council's findings describe work in progress and technical issues still requiring attention. Actual drainage performance will only become clearer once the system is finished and exposed to substantial rainfall.
