Bali's housing repair programme has completed 387 homes
In brief: By the end of September 2026, Bali had finished renovation work on 387 homes against a target of 4,184 for the year. Officials reported assistance decisions covering 1,410 homes, a separate measure of progress that does not represent completed construction.
For residents waiting to make unsafe or deteriorating housing liveable, the difference between an administrative approval and a finished repair is substantial. It emerged from a September 30 coordination meeting involving Bali's provincial government and Indonesia's Ministry of Housing and Settlements. The provincial government published its account on October 2, saying more work would be needed to meet the year's target.
Approvals are running ahead of physical repairs
The province reported that 1,410 homes had been covered by formal beneficiary decisions, known locally as *Surat Keputusan* (SK). Just 387 renovations had reached 100% completion. The ministry's own September 30 report separately confirmed the completion figure and the 4,184-home allocation.
Those figures describe different steps in a programme intended to improve inadequate existing housing for lower-income households. They cannot be combined into a single count of homes already repaired. Nor does the annual allocation establish when a particular household will receive building work.
A second official account gives a different approval count
An October 9 statement from the Buleleng regional council secretariat cited a Bali governor's letter dated September 30. That letter put the number of beneficiaries designated through formal decisions at 1,407, with 2,777 proposed beneficiaries still requiring further processing. The earlier provincial and housing-agency accounts both used 1,410. The available official statements do not explain the three-case discrepancy.
The Buleleng account also provides a clearer picture of the bottlenecks. Some prospective recipients have not passed verification, others need to complete paperwork, and some may have to be replaced because they do not meet the conditions. A shortage of community facilitators in certain areas adds another constraint. The October meeting focused on getting these administrative and practical issues resolved so that allocated assistance can turn into completed work.
The work required varies from one house to another
According to the Buleleng council's explanation, repairs can focus on deficient elements such as roofing, walls or floors. A home does not necessarily need to be rebuilt in full to qualify for improvement work; the scope is tied to its assessed condition and the applicable programme rules.
No district-by-district completion timetable is established by the province-wide September figures. Residents already in the programme need the status of their own beneficiary decision and repair arrangements from the responsible local office. For households hoping to be selected, the existence of unused places in the annual allocation is not itself proof of eligibility or approval.
