Super Air Jet resumes direct Bandung–Bali flights via Husein Airport

In brief: Super Air Jet began flying between Bandung and Bali on 18 September 2026, restoring a direct domestic link between West Java and Denpasar; the service has since operated, although passengers booking travel from late October should pay attention to planned timetable changes.

The opening was more than an announcement

Bandung's return to Super Air Jet's network was initially announced by West Java's provincial government on 15 September. The route was scheduled to begin three days later, connecting Medan, Bandung and Denpasar. On 21 September, the Bandung city administration reported that an inaugural ceremony had taken place at Husein Sastranegara Airport on 18 September, attended by the city's mayor.

The Indonesian Air Force also documented an inbound Super Air Jet aircraft from Denpasar arriving at Husein Sastranegara on the launch date. Bandung's government identified the aircraft type as an Airbus A320 with 180 economy seats. The airports serving the Bali connection are Husein Sastranegara (BDO) and I Gusti Ngurah Rai (DPS).

There is more recent evidence than the ceremony itself. Flight-tracking records show completed Bandung–Denpasar services under flight number IU170 in October, including 9 and 12 October. The route is therefore an operating service, not an unfulfilled plan awaiting a first departure.

October's timetable deserves a second look

The September launch schedule advertised flights between Bandung and Denpasar on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, in both directions. For anyone with fixed work or family commitments, that four-day pattern makes the choice of departure date particularly important.

Published information is not entirely consistent. Bandung's 21 September government release described the Medan–Bandung–Denpasar service as daily, while the airline schedule reported at launch listed four operating days per week. Aviation schedule specialist AeroRoutes had separately identified a filing for three weekly Bandung–Denpasar flights from 25 October 2026, as part of Super Air Jet's next seasonal programme.

That late-October filing is a planned timetable, not confirmation that its frequency is already in force. Anyone arranging a journey for 25 October or later should use flights actually offered on their chosen dates to check both outbound and return options. The availability of a through journey involving Medan should also be verified for the particular itinerary.

A useful domestic link for people who travel repeatedly

For Bali residents with family, education or business commitments in West Java, the restored route offers another way to reach Bandung without changing aircraft elsewhere. It can also make shorter visits to Bali more straightforward for Bandung-based travellers, provided the departure days suit their plans.

Greater route choice does not establish that airfares will fall or that visitor numbers will rise. Neither the inauguration reports nor the schedule filings offer evidence for those outcomes. The most dependable benefit at this stage is a confirmed direct service, with its practical value determined by the dates and connections a traveller actually needs.
