Proposed Qantas and Jetstar routes could bring new Australia–Bali flights in 2027

In brief: Qantas applied on 2 October 2026 for additional capacity between Australia and Indonesia, including services to Bali. The Australian regulator still listed the case as ongoing on 14 October, so the proposed flights should not be mistaken for an approved timetable.

Two proposed Bali services have 2027 start dates

Jetstar wants to operate a daily nonstop service from Western Sydney International Airport to Denpasar from 15 March 2027, using Airbus A321LR aircraft. That would offer travellers in western Sydney a different departure airport for Bali journeys, although the real convenience will depend on the final flight times and ground connections.

Qantas is also seeking to operate daily Brisbane–Denpasar flights with Boeing 737 aircraft from 1 August 2027. Both launch dates appear in reporting on the airline's submission to Australia's International Air Services Commission (IASC). They remain proposed start dates while the application is under consideration.

The capacity request also covers Jakarta

The figure at the centre of the filing is 4,539 additional passenger seats per week in each direction on Australia–Indonesia routes. It is not a Bali-only allocation. Qantas also proposes daily Perth–Jakarta flights from 14 December 2026 and higher Melbourne–Jakarta frequencies during 2027.

According to the commission's case notice dated 2 October, Qantas has asked for a five-year allocation beginning when a determination is made. The group says it would use the full capacity by 1 November 2027, with Jetstar and other wholly owned Qantas Group airlines eligible to operate under the requested arrangement. These are terms of the application, not capacity rights already granted.

The regulatory decision is still pending

As of 14 October, IASC continued to list the Indonesia case as ongoing. Other carriers have until 19 October 2026 to submit competing applications. That is the application deadline, not a promised decision date or confirmation that flights will begin as proposed.

For Bali residents who travel to Australia regularly, the filing points to potentially greater choice next year. It does not establish ticket prices, bookable schedules or whether particular connections will work. Trips that depend on fixed arrival times or onward flights are best planned using services that are actually available, with any future routes treated as possibilities until the details are confirmed.
