Inheriting Bali property

Property does not pass merely because it is named in a will. First bring asset, right, records, family facts and urgent actions into one map.

Where do you start without guessing the result?

With an asset-and-record map, not an assumption about heirs.

The short answer

Separate person and family, assets, right/agreement, records, obligations and the next registration question.

Evidence scope

Geography
Indonesia and Bali; personal and cross-border questions are individual.
Established
  • There is a notarial framework for written evidence.
  • The official legal framework includes inheritance law.
  • Right and registration differ.
Not established
  • Heirs, shares, law, tax or transfer of a specific asset.

1. Inventory rather than a project name

The list should include asset, right or interest, share, agreements, obligations, accounts, deposits and management. Mark what is evidenced, only in messages or absent.

2. Right, agreement and registration differ

The land framework distinguishes right and registration. Collect underlying right, holder, contractual interest and registration records separately rather than calling all of it ‘ownership.’

3. Personal facts change the question

Marital status, citizenship, residence, potential participants, existing wills and records from different countries may matter. Collect them privately for individual review.

4. A will is not the whole chain

Check version, date, storage, link to prior versions and asset records. The notarial framework does not establish that every file called a will applies in a particular matter.

5. Give a professional a question map

One page of facts, records, unknowns and urgent actions is more useful than dozens of unconnected files. Before an answer, do not replace review with an irreversible payment, signature or handover.

Decision steps

  1. Inventory

    Collect asset, rights and obligations.

  2. Separate facts

Separate record from message and assumption.

  3. Private family map

    Record material personal facts.

  4. Version history

    Retain current and prior records.

  5. Specific advice

Provide the map and urgent action.

What to check

Personal preparation notes, not confirmation of legal review.

FAQ

Is a will enough?

There is no universal answer: read it with assets, rights and personal facts.

Does citizenship decide everything?

No automatic conclusion follows; it is one fact for review.

Is an old scan enough?

Not as the only source: history and asset connection are needed.

Can the asset keep being let?

Do not assume it: list it as an urgent action for review.

What should go to first advice?

The map of assets, facts, records, unknowns and urgent actions.
