Employment and work permission in Bali
In a relocation conversation, work can sound simple: there is a role, a company, and only a home remains. But an employment situation has separate parts — what is being offered, who the employer is, which process the company is running, which question belongs to the individual and what is confirmed on the current date. When they are merged into ‘there is work’, housing can be chosen around a promise rather than a real plan.
What should be checked before leasing and moving?
Write down the proposed role, the party making the offer, intended place and format of work, start date, records already received and unanswered questions. This is not bureaucracy: it shows what the employer checks, what the person checks and what cannot be decided without a current competent source.
The short answer
First separate the role offer from a confirmed basis for work. Then ask the employer to name the legal entity, responsible contact and current process stage for your situation; retain written replies and do not build an irreversible move around assumed dates. Government Regulation No. 34 of 2021 regulates use of foreign workers, including employer duties, RPTKA, changes and extensions, and connected residence matters. It supplies a legal framework, not a personal answer for your case.
1. Describe the work so it can be checked
‘I will help the company’ and ‘I was told everything will be arranged’ are not a checkable description. Begin with role, duties in plain words, proposed party, date, place or format, and the person responsible for operational questions. If part of this is unknown, do not invent the missing line.
Do not replace an employment offer with a housing discussion. An address may depend on where, when and how work actually happens, but it confirms neither the role nor a right to work.
2. A brand and employer may not be the same party
Ask for the legal entity making the offer and the contact able to confirm it for that party. Recruiter, manager, client and the company named in records may not be the same. They cannot be merged from a logo, social profile or spoken phrase.
Keep track of which record or email supports each material statement. This is not formal distrust; it prevents an expectation, commercial conversation and confirmed fact from being confused.
3. A legal framework is not permission for you
JDIH BPK describes Government Regulation No. 34 of 2021 as regulating foreign-worker use: employer duties and prohibitions, RPTKA applications, changes and extensions, compensation fund, connected residence permissions, reporting and supervision. It is a useful signal that the process has parties and stages, not a free zone for oral promises.
But the framework cannot establish that a particular role, company, person or date is already suitable. The applicability question belongs with a current official or competent channel, not a general relocation chat.

4. Ask for the current stage, not an attractive ending
In 2026 Kemnaker recorded integration of OSS, employment and immigration systems in the RPTKA confirmation process for investment applications. This shows that digital systems can be part of the process; it does not mean one screenshot or number automatically confirms the entire path for a person.
Ask the employer which stage is confirmed now, which official record supports it, what next question remains with the employer and what the candidate must still check. If dates matter for a lease, treat them as expected until written confirmation, not as a move date.

5. Housing should follow confirmation, not compensate for unknowns
Once real geography, format and start are clear, areas and routes to work and life can be compared. Until then, preserve reversibility: do not tie a long lease or purchase to one assumed scenario.
A useful question for a property assistant here is not ‘which area is best?’ but ‘which address options leave us a workable route while the work process is not complete?’ It is more honest for both the household and a future deal.
Decision steps
- Record the offer
Name role, party, format, place, date and contact without filling gaps.
- Identify the party
Separate brand, recruiter, client and the employer’s legal entity.
- Ask for the current stage
Obtain a written source for what is confirmed and a list of open questions.
- Check applicability
Seek current confirmation for your status from the competent channel.
- Choose the address after facts
Match area to confirmed geography and retain flexibility until gaps close.
