Cambodia registered 650 new enterprises in the first five months of 2026

Event date

The 650 figure covers several types of registered employers

Agence Kampuchea Presse reported on June 29, citing the labour ministry, that 650 new enterprises, companies and factories had registered during the first five months of 2026. That brought the number of registered establishments to 47,299 at the end of the period.

The ministry also put the workforce attached to registered establishments at 2,296,348 people, including 1,309,190 women. These are period-specific administrative figures rather than a complete measure of every form of employment in Cambodia.

The wording matters. The 650 registrations cover employers of different types and sizes; they do not mean 650 large factories opened.

A later half-year update lifted the total to 47,494

Subsequent ministry figures for the first half of 2026 showed 47,494 registered enterprises by the end of June, up from 46,649 at the end of 2025. That corresponds to 845 additions over six months, while the ministry also reported more than 91,000 new job opportunities created during the period.

The later release is useful because it prevents the May snapshot from being mistaken for a current total. The 47,299 figure belongs to the January–May reporting window; the June update extended the same trend with another month of registrations.

Business growth does not answer every labour-market question

For job seekers, a larger registered employer base is a useful sign of formal-sector activity, but it says little about salaries, occupation-level demand, working conditions or the location of vacancies. Those questions require more specific labour-market data.

The labour ministry attributed the expansion to stronger labour demand, manufacturing orders and exports. That is the ministry's explanation and should be treated as an attributed assessment rather than an independent finding about causation.

For foreign applicants, the figures are best used as background on the size and direction of the formal market. They do not establish that a particular role is open to a foreign candidate or what hiring conditions apply to that position.
