Dey Edth–Thma Kor Mekong bridge reached 53.81% completion

Event date

The crossing is designed to connect major roads on both banks

The ministry's 25 June update followed an on-site inspection on 24 June. The project sits in Kandal province, with the western approach in Dey Edth commune, Kien Svay district, and the eastern approach in Thma Kor commune, Lvea Em district. The full project, including the bridge and approach roads, extends about 3.7 kilometres. The Mekong crossing itself is about 1.6 kilometres long and 26 metres wide, with four traffic lanes. On the western side, it is intended to connect with Xi Jinping Boulevard, or Ring Road 3, at National Road 1; on the eastern side, it will link toward the Phnom Penh–Bavet expressway corridor.

That layout could eventually create another useful Mekong crossing for trips between eastern Kandal and the southern and eastern side of the Phnom Penh metropolitan area. The construction percentage alone, however, cannot tell commuters how much time a future journey will save or how traffic will distribute once the bridge opens.

More than half built does not mean open for everyday travel

For households considering where to live, the June milestone is best treated as evidence that the project has moved well beyond its early stages. It is not yet a reason to calculate school runs, work commutes or airport trips as if the bridge were available.

The same caution applies to property expectations. A major new road connection can affect how a location functions, but 53.81% completion does not establish future price growth, rental demand or a specific reduction in travel time. Those questions become more concrete only after the bridge and its approaches are operating and real traffic patterns can be observed.

No newer officially confirmed construction percentage was found during the current verification that supersedes the 53.81% figure. It should therefore be read as a late-June 2026 progress snapshot, not as a claim about the project's present-day percentage.
