Road 36 drainage project in Russey Keo reached 95% completion

The 1.5-metre drain extends for more than one kilometre

The project is being carried out by the Phnom Penh Capital Administration, with the municipal public works department and BBE involved in the works. The main pipe has a diameter of 1.5 metres and follows Road 36 through Russey Keo.

An earlier city update on 30 June described the alignment in more detail. The line runs for over 1,000 metres from Road 99 towards the Russey Keo flyover area, with stormwater intended to flow onward through the Ou Veng canal and the new Kilometer 9 pumping station.

For nearby residents, the useful part of the project is its place in that wider drainage chain. A larger pipe can move more rainwater away from local streets, but its real effect depends on the downstream canal, pumping capacity and the condition of the connecting drains.

A 95% construction figure is not the same as full operation

The confirmed milestone applies to 10 August: roughly 95% of the work on this large pipe had been completed. No separate official notice confirming completion and commissioning of this specific section was found in the later material checked for this update, so the project should not be described as fully finished.

The same caution applies to flood risk. Completing this drain can improve local capacity, but flooding can still be influenced by blocked inlets, other constrained sections of the network, pumping performance and the intensity of individual storms.
