Koh Norea–Mekong Quay bridge reaches detailed design review
The planned connection extends beyond the bridge itself
Minister of Public Works and Transport Peng Ponea chaired the meeting with representatives of TP Moral Group, Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC) and relevant officials. The agenda covered the project study, technical design and related works for the proposed crossing.
The bridge is intended to link Koh Norea in eastern Phnom Penh with the Mekong Quay development area in Areaksat City, Kandal Province. The review also covered a connecting road between the Koh Norea bridge area and National Road 1, making the wider road layout important to how useful the future crossing would be in everyday travel.
For residents choosing where to live based on commuting time, the project is worth tracking because it could eventually provide another direct route across the Mekong. It should not yet be treated as an existing transport advantage when comparing neighbourhoods or estimating routine travel times.
For practical context, see Cambodia market and country comparisons. This development also connects with Dey Edth–Thma Kor bridge reached 53.81% completion.
The June update did not set a construction date
The ministry described the work under review as a study, technical design and associated project tasks. Its announcement did not give a date for construction to start or state that physical bridge works were already underway.
For anyone making a near-term housing or relocation decision, the distinction is relevant. Current routes remain the reliable basis for planning today; the bridge becomes more relevant once there is a confirmed construction timetable, clear access arrangements and an opening schedule.
