Cambodia says fuel supply cover ranges from 10 to 21 days
Keo Rottanak gave the update in a video posted on September 26. The figures were presented as supply cover based on approved inventories and import plans, with different buffers for each fuel category; there is no single national number for all petroleum products.
The 21-day figure applies to gasoline, not all fuel
Gasoline had the longest stated cover at 21 days. Diesel was put at 15 days, while aviation fuel and LPG were each listed at 10 days as of September 25.
Rottanak said those periods describe how long normal operations could be sustained if new imports stopped completely. At the same time, he said fuel and gas imports were still moving into Cambodia and that there were no current signs of a supply interruption.
A headline referring only to 21 days can obscure the shorter buffers for diesel and LPG, which are more directly relevant to some transport operators, small businesses and households.
For practical context, see Cambodia market and country comparisons. This development also connects with Cambodia’s fuel import bill climbs 53.8% in nine months.
Supply cover is a buffer, not a shortage deadline
The numbers describe resilience under a disruption scenario. When imports are continuing, fuel is being consumed and replenished at the same time, so September 25 plus 10, 15 or 21 days is not a forecast date for pumps to run dry.
The update also does not establish where retail prices will go next. Physical supply cover and pump prices are related to different variables, including import costs and government pricing measures. If import conditions change, the practical impact would need to be reassessed by fuel type using the latest official information, not extrapolated from this snapshot.
