Cambodia's CDC cited 184 investment projects worth $2.6bn for the first four months of 2026
The May forum figure covered 184 approved projects
Agence Kampuchea Presse reported that Sun Chanthol presented the 184-project, roughly $2.6 billion figure at the Cambodia Investment Forum 2026 in Phnom Penh. His remarks framed special economic zones as an important part of the pipeline and pointed to a shift toward electronic components and more technology-intensive industries.
That description should be kept in its proper context. It reflects the government's view of the investment pipeline and industrial direction; it is not evidence that every approved project will be implemented on schedule or that a particular sector, district or property market will benefit.
For a business owner or investor, approval data is most useful as an early signal of projects that have cleared a regulatory stage. It does not establish how much capital has actually been spent, whether construction has started, when operations will begin or how much employment will ultimately materialise.
For practical context, see Cambodia economy and finance. This development also connects with Cambodia sets tax-incentive procedures for northeast investment.
Later April data do not reconcile perfectly with the forum total
A separate CDC report for the first quarter put the January-March total at 146 fixed-asset investment projects worth about $2.5 billion. On 21 May, AKP then reported from a CDC press release that 42 projects worth about $222 million had been approved in April.
Those two releases would add up to 188 projects, not 184. The available material does not explain the difference, so it would be unsafe to invent a reason or silently replace one official figure with another. The 184 figure is best understood as the cumulative number publicly cited at the 7 May forum, while the later monthly release may reflect a different cutoff, revision or coverage.
This matters when using approval statistics to judge momentum. A clean time series requires the same reporting scope and methodology; otherwise a small apparent change can come from the way projects were counted rather than from a real shift in investment activity.
By mid-year, the cumulative picture had moved on
Later reporting showed 276 registered investment projects with about $4.7 billion in capital for the first half of 2026. That makes the May forum number a historical checkpoint rather than a current year-to-date total.
Even the larger half-year figure remains a pipeline measure. For decisions tied to a specific location, industrial site or commercial asset, the more useful evidence comes later: project location, construction progress, commissioning dates, workforce requirements and actual operating activity. Those details can affect demand for logistics, staff accommodation and local services; the headline approval total cannot prove that effect by itself.
