Cambodia’s exports rose 19% in the first five months of 2026

Event date

Agence Kampuchea Presse also reported imports of $16.03 billion on June 11, citing the customs department’s figures available at the time. The current GDCE release lists imports at $17.131 billion, making the data revision part of the story for anyone using the numbers for business or market analysis.

The current five-month table puts trade at $31.4 billion

GDCE’s latest January–May table records $14.286 billion of exports, compared with $12.014 billion in the same period of 2025. Imports reached $17.131 billion, up 27% from $13.489 billion.

Total merchandise trade was $31.417 billion, 23% higher year on year. With imports expanding faster than exports, Cambodia recorded a trade deficit of about $2.845 billion over the five months.

Those figures supersede the totals carried in the June 11 AKP report, which cited $14.04 billion of exports and $16.03 billion of imports. The original June story still captures what was reported at the time, but the revised GDCE table is the more appropriate reference for later calculations.

The US remained the dominant export market

Cambodia shipped $5.731 billion of goods to the United States in the first five months of 2026, 32% more than a year earlier. Exports to Viet Nam reached $2.324 billion, up 14%.

Japan accounted for $766 million, China for $753 million and Canada for $498 million. The partner-country data show broad export growth across several markets, while also highlighting concentration: the US alone represented roughly 40% of Cambodia’s export value during the period.

The revision matters when the figures feed into decisions

For exporters, suppliers and workers tied to trade-facing industries, the 19% rise is evidence of stronger overseas sales during the first part of 2026. It does not, by itself, establish higher profits, wages, property prices or investment returns across the wider economy.

The gap between the June report and the current GDCE table is also a reminder that cumulative customs data can be revised. Anyone comparing markets, building a forecast or assessing demand should keep the reporting vintage consistent and treat later monthly releases as separate updates rather than silently mixing them into the January–May snapshot.
