Bali selected as a pilot for integrated 112 emergency response

In brief: Indonesian national and local authorities signed an agreement on 24 September 2026 to strengthen emergency coordination across Bali through the 112 number; the initiative brings fire, medical and disaster-response services into a common plan, but it does not establish that every part of the island has a fully integrated dispatch system today.

For long-term residents, the promise is straightforward: one point of contact could make it easier to get a report to the right emergency agency. Delivering that promise across Bali will require local call centres and response teams to work together, not simply a new telephone number.

The September agreement sets a province-wide direction

Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, known as Komdigi, signed a cooperation agreement in Nusa Dua with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bali's provincial, regency and municipal authorities. The undertaking forms part of the Indonesia Siaga 112 initiative. Provincial disaster-management officials also described it as a commitment to accelerate coordination among agencies already handling different kinds of emergencies.

The government has designated Bali a principal testing ground for an approach it hopes other Indonesian regions can adopt. Officials cited the island's high mobility and international visitors among the reasons for the choice. A two-year ambition mentioned in government communications concerns the wider national model; it is not a guaranteed completion date for every Bali locality.

Free calls are part of the design; coordinated dispatch is the work ahead

Komdigi says the 112 service is designed to accept calls without charge from mobile and fixed-line phones. An integrated operation would then pass relevant incidents to ambulance services, firefighters, disaster-response teams or public-safety agencies. Bali's plans include round-the-clock call handling, staff training, equipment and operational procedures, alongside better links between call centres and teams on the ground.

Those plans matter because the number itself is not entirely new to the province. Denpasar launched a 112 service in 2017, while Klungkung Regency held a soft launch of its call centre on 3 August 2026, initially operating from the local KRISS ambulance service office in Gelgel. These are specific local developments. Neither their existence nor the September agreement demonstrates that response arrangements are identical across Bali's regencies and municipalities.

Residents still need area-specific emergency information

Someone moving to a rental home in a different part of Bali cannot yet assume that a single island-wide dispatch arrangement will handle every emergency in the same way. The September announcements did not establish a complete district-by-district coverage list, measured response times or guaranteed support in foreign languages.

Before settling into a property, residents can confirm local emergency contacts with the relevant authorities or property manager and find out whether 112 is operational for that address. Keeping verified medical and rescue contacts available remains sensible while the integration programme develops. The announcement is a concrete commitment to improving access to help, not a certification that implementation is finished.
