Pets, veterinary care and housing conditions in Bali
The riskiest mistake in moving with an animal is choosing the home and flight first, then searching for ‘which certificates are needed’. An animal has its own route, timings and questions for the carrier, quarantine authority, veterinarian and housing owner. They cannot be closed by the phrase ‘pet friendly’ or somebody else’s chat story.
Where should you begin before choosing housing?
Build one animal profile: species, age, country or point of departure, intended date, travel method, current veterinary records and the contact who will own the process. Not for a public form, but so the same facts are held by you, the quarantine side, carrier and housing owner.
The short answer
Confirm the applicable route with the official quarantine side first, then collect written requirements for your animal and date, and only after that align transport and housing. Badan Karantina Indonesia publishes an import procedure for animals and animal products, explicitly separating procedures and exceptions for different categories. The Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health reports a distinct SIMREK PKH service for pet-animal import permits. This is not a ready action list for your pet: it depends on category and current requirements.
1. Give the process one source of truth
When records, messages and vaccinations are scattered across different people, an error appears before the authority is even contacted. Make one clear folder: animal profile, existing records, route, dates, contacts and a question table. It should contain no assumptions presented as confirmed facts.
This profile does not replace an official document. It lets you phrase the same question to quarantine, carrier and housing owner, and spot a contradiction before money and dates become irreversible.
2. Do not copy another animal’s requirement list
Badan Karantina Indonesia publishes an animal-import procedure and explicitly distinguishes categories, with pet animals excepted from part of the general process. That is why copying a requirement list from an article or video is risky: sharing an animal type does not mean your route, date or requirements match.
The Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health reports a SIMREK PKH service for pet-animal import permits. Use official channels to ask about your own profile and receive current direction. Do not state that a permit, date or document pack has been obtained until it is confirmed for your case.

3. Carrier and veterinarian answer different parts
Give the carrier a specific route, date and animal profile; ask for its current terms and the date by which it expects confirmation. For the veterinarian, prepare known records and a question that concerns the animal’s condition rather than a request to ‘make a certificate’. Do not give one intermediary another party’s role.
Plan only what is confirmed by date. If quarantine response, transport and veterinary steps do not yet fit together, that is not a minor technicality. It is a reason not to promise yourself a move date or commit to housing that cannot work with the animal.
4. ‘Pets allowed’ needs unpacking
An advert may look pet friendly yet say nothing about whether the particular owner accepts your animal type, which areas are available, how handover is recorded, how move-in condition is noted or who answers for a change. Do not write the terms for another party; ask for them in writing.
Share only necessary information about the animal and retain the reply with the home arrangement. Do not turn an everyday question into a promise of legal outcome: if a term is material, attach it to the selected record and the relevant person.
5. Local veterinary care means contact and route, not a ranking
Before choosing an area, state what ordinary veterinary contact the household needs and collect several direct contacts from checkable sources. Do not label a practice ‘best’ or infer availability from an internet card: ask the selected practice which contact route and process apply now.
Test the route from the home in the context of life with an animal: who transports it, how that would work at the relevant time and what remains unknown. This page does not provide a veterinary decision; it stops that logistics being left outside the housing decision.
Decision steps
- Build the animal profile
Bring species, age, route, date, existing records, contacts and questions into one file.
- Confirm the official route
Obtain current direction for the animal and date from the quarantine or relevant authority.
- Align carrier and veterinary steps
Check that confirmed dates and requests do not contradict one another.
- Obtain home terms in writing
Ask the chosen owner or manager about the specific animal and property terms.
- Test daily logistics
Match the prospective address with needed contacts and the real way the animal would travel.
