Which Bali Homes Are Practical for the Green School BioBus?
Published · Updated
Can the BioBus replace the daily school run?
A rental that looks too far from Green School Bali for two daily car journeys may still be a sensible family home if the school bus genuinely serves it. The Green School BioBus is a dedicated student service linking designated pick-up areas with the campus at Sibang Kaja. It can remove a substantial part of the school run for some families. But living in a district named on a route page is not, on its own, evidence that a child can board there tomorrow, or that a seat will be available throughout a rental term.
The public route page has two Ubud references and names locations around Canggu, Pererenan and Munggu. Its published timetable is labelled May 2025. For the 2026/27 school year, which began on 12 August 2026, the school directs enrolled families to the Green School Bali app for pick-up and drop-off details. That difference matters: a historic stop list is a useful search filter, whereas an operational plan needs a current boarding location, an accepted booking and the correct return journey. No public listing can establish those details for an individual household.
Treat the choice as a door-to-classroom decision, not a pin-on-a-map exercise. A child must be eligible, reach the assigned point at the right time and get home on ordinary afternoons as well as late ones. Parents also need a workable alternative for days when the bus cannot be used. Only after those conditions are settled does it make sense to rank villas or houses by proximity to a stop. An address near the campus without bus access can be more practical than a distant property in a supposedly served neighbourhood; the reverse can also be true when the complete journey has been established.
Who may ride, and what must families arrange?
Eligibility comes before neighbourhood choice. Green School Bali’s public BioBus page says the service is open to students in Grade 2 and above. A pupil below Grade 2 may ride when accompanied by an older sibling who is in Grade 4 or higher. These are the school’s grade levels, not an invitation to infer eligibility from a child’s age. Families considering a 2026/27 booking need the transport team to confirm that the published condition still applies to their circumstances, including the return journey.
Consider siblings in Grade 1 and Grade 3. Being enrolled at the same school does not meet the stated requirement for the younger child to travel with a Grade 4-or-above sibling. If the older child is instead in Grade 4, the published wording makes the arrangement potentially possible, but it says nothing about a guaranteed seat or what happens on a day when that sibling stays late. It also gives no basis for assuming another adult may replace the sibling. A house dependent on both children riding together is a more fragile proposition when their after-school commitments differ.
The school also requires passengers to be registered and to have paid before boarding. Enrolment in Green School is not the bus reservation, and qualifying for the service is not proof that space remains on the desired route. A family might need five regular mornings, only some afternoons, or a different late return for one child. Those details affect which rental works. The transport team should clarify the current booking period, which days can be reserved, how seats are assigned, and whether a one-way or variable arrangement is offered; the open page does not establish these commercial options for 2026/27.
Green School describes directly employed drivers trained in child protection, a supervisor on each route, seat belts, GPS-enabled communication and route updates. Those are useful descriptions of how the school intends to run the service, not an independent assessment of a particular child’s entire commute. The street-side handover remains a separate question: who must wait with the student, who may collect them, and what should a parent do if the bus is late? The school links to BioBus procedures covering stop guidelines, pick-up and drop-off expectations and communication. Current procedures and an individual seat confirmation should be requested from bio.bus@greenschool.org before a rental decision relies on the bus.
Which BioBus stop areas has the school named?
These locations come from a school page whose timetable is labelled May 2025. They help narrow the search, but a current boarding pin and seat for 2026/27 must be confirmed separately.
| Area / stop | Published info | For 2026/27 |
|---|---|---|
| Ubud — Nyuh Kuning Football Field | May 2025: 7:30 a.m. pick-up. | Is the field pick-up active on your days? |
| Ubud — Penestanan Kaja / Cafe Vespa | May 2025: 7:20 a.m.; site says Panestanan. | Exact corner, map pin and pick-up time? |
| Canggu — Jl. Raya Canggu / Jl. Sempol | May 2025: junction, 7:20 a.m. | Which kerb, and what return service? |
| Pererenan — Jl. Dalem Lingsir | May 2025: road named, 7:20 a.m. | Which section, and is late return offered? |
| Munggu — beach parking area | May 2025: listed, no time shown. | Is it served now; where and when? |
| Sibang Kaja — campus (reference, not a stop) | School address, not a BioBus stop. | Assess an independent trip to campus. |
What happens between the front door and the classroom?
The critical distance is not simply the one between the villa and Green School Bali. There is a sequence to make work every day: leaving home, reaching the assigned boarding point, supervising the wait, handing the student over, riding to Sibang Kaja and arriving ready for class. After school, an adult may need to be at a different kerb at a different time. A bus can solve the long central journey while leaving a surprisingly inconvenient first and last leg for the family. That distinction is particularly important when neither parent intends to drive regularly.
The five areas on the public page are not five interchangeable neighbourhood-wide pick-up guarantees. The Nyuh Kuning Football Field is a landmark in Ubud; the Cafe Vespa reference is another Ubud location. Canggu is represented by the meeting of Jalan Raya Canggu and Jalan Sempol, Pererenan by Jalan Dalem Lingsir, and Munggu by a beach car park. Some descriptions identify a junction, others a road or a parking area. They narrow a housing search, but they do not establish which side of a road a child should stand on, where a vehicle may stop, or whether the school is still using that location in 2026/27. The spelling of the Penestanan or Panestanan Kaja reference also warrants checking against the actual map point rather than relying on a text search alone.
A short distance on a property listing can disguise a poor walk. A detour to find a usable crossing, a lane without a continuous footpath, a rainy-season approach, or a difficult place for a car to wait may make an apparently nearby house awkward at school-run hours. None of those possibilities is a finding about the safety of a named Green School stop; that would require the exact current point and a site-specific assessment. The more useful rental question is whether this particular child can reach the bus in the circumstances that will exist on ordinary mornings and late afternoons. Younger pupils may need a parent or another authorised adult involved at both ends, even where the ride itself is supervised.
The historical numbers illustrate why a current schedule is indispensable. The May 2025 school page gives a 7:30 a.m. morning pick-up at Nyuh Kuning and 7:20 a.m. at the listed Penestanan Kaja, Canggu and Pererenan points. Munggu appears in the stop list but has no corresponding time in the displayed table. Afternoon entries distinguish the usual service and a late bus, using a combination of 'drop off' and 'ETA' labels. Those labels should be explained by the transport team before anyone treats them as school departure times, stop arrival times or a basis for calculating ride duration. None of those 2025 entries can be presented as the active 2026/27 service.
The return trip often determines whether a home is workable. One child might finish on the regular schedule while another has an activity that calls for a later bus. A route that works in the morning may offer no suitable return on a particular weekday, or may need a different collection arrangement. Route updates and GPS-backed communication, as described by the school, can tell a family what is happening to the vehicle; they cannot collect a child on a parent's behalf. An arrangement that requires a parent to drive across the island each time an activity runs late may defeat the original reason for choosing the house.
Compare a possible rental against three real-world versions of the same day: the usual school day, a late-activity day and a day with no usable bus. The campus is on Jalan Raya Sibang Kaja, with its own one-way vehicle access and parking instructions, so a house near the school offers a useful non-bus reference point. Proximity to campus is not evidence that there is a BioBus stop at its gate. Equally, a well-connected home farther away may provide a better total routine than a badly accessed one nearer school. The deciding evidence is a school-confirmed stop and return service, followed by an actual inspection of the road route from the house.
What is worth verifying
Use these signals when comparing actual rentals. Each is about evidence for a workable routine, not a guarantee of road safety or uninterrupted service.
Current-year stop confirmed in writing
Why it mattersA current stop pin, service direction and travel days let the family assess a real route rather than a 2025 landmark.
Child's eligibility and seat confirmed
Why it mattersThe team has accepted the relevant grade or sibling arrangement and allocated the needed booked, paid journeys.
Safe and feasible last-mile access
Why it mattersAn inspected approach accounts for crossings, weather, waiting space and adult supervision without pretending to certify safety.
Service fits the child's actual timetable
Why it mattersThe booked morning and return options align with lessons and activities, including realistic collection at the stop.
Independent fallback is feasible
Why it mattersA family can reach campus and collect the pupil without the bus, keeping a service disruption from breaking the day.
When might the BioBus stop working for your family?
A school calendar can show when pupils are expected on campus, but it is not a bus operating contract. Green School Bali began the 2026/27 year on 12 August 2026. Its published school calendar distinguishes teaching days from holidays, teacher learning days and breaks; the October 2026 mid-semester break is marked for 12–16 October, with the next term beginning on 19 October. That is useful planning information for a parent or landlord, yet it does not answer whether a particular BioBus route runs on every date or whether there is a separate service during a school event. Bus availability and the child's learning schedule have to be reconciled rather than inferred from one another.
Return arrangements deserve their own conversation with the transport team. A routine pick-up might serve a child's normal day but not an activity that ends later, a changed timetable or two siblings leaving at different hours. The May 2025 page advertised regular afternoon and late-bus entries for four stop areas. It gives neither verified 2026/27 late-bus availability nor current stop-specific operating days. Parents should establish whether the child is booked for the correct return, what a timetable entry actually denotes, and how they will be contacted if the service is delayed, redirected or cancelled. The right plan also identifies who will meet the child at the stop and what happens if that person cannot be there.
Before taking a long rental, the family needs a route-specific written response from Green School, not an estate agent's interpretation of a published map. The transport contact is bio.bus@greenschool.org. One useful message can identify the child's grade, whether a qualifying older sibling travels, the possible house addresses and the desired travel days. The critical questions are concrete: Which exact 2026/27 boarding points and directions are active, including Munggu if relevant? Do the stated clock times refer to boarding, departure from school or estimated arrival at the stop? Is there room for the child on both the morning and the required afternoon or late service? How do supervision, authorised collection and missed-bus procedures work at that particular point? A general confirmation that BioBus exists does not settle any of these matters.
Price should be requested in the same exchange. The public page requires advance payment and registration but does not publish a school-journey price for 2026/27 that can safely be applied to a new family. Amounts shown for airport pick-up and drop-off are for a separate transport product, not the daily school commute. The school is the appropriate source for the available ticket types, charge period, seat reservation, permitted changes to travel days, cancellation terms and any sibling arrangements. Without that answer, the difference between two rentals cannot honestly be reduced to the rent plus an invented monthly bus allowance. Even a modest difference in housing cost may matter less than the consequence of needing emergency collection several days a month, although no such frequency should be assumed.
The property itself requires equal scrutiny. A listing may advertise 'near BioBus' when it merely lies within a district once named on the school site. What matters is the actual approach: the route along public roads, the crossings a child and accompanying adult must use, a legal waiting or drop-off space, weather exposure and the journey home after a later arrival. A landlord can explain the house access and lease conditions, but cannot assign a seat on a school-operated bus. A viewing at the times the family expects to travel will reveal more than a straight-line measurement. The family can then ask whether a shorter first commitment or an agreed break clause is feasible, instead of committing to a full term on a transport assumption.
Finally, rehearse the fallback. If the confirmed stop changes, a route is unavailable or the child is too young to travel under the applicable rule, how will the household get to the Sibang Kaja campus and back? The campus has its own parking and one-way flow instructions, so direct car collection must be planned around those arrangements rather than treated as a drive-by. Green School itself recommends that arriving families inspect housing in person and consider temporary accommodation before entering a long lease. A home that remains workable without the bus gives parents time to evaluate the service on ordinary school days. When any of the essential confirmations is missing, a provisional housing decision is more defensible than an irreversible one.
Bali expert view

An address can sit inside a familiar BioBus area yet require a second journey simply to reach the morning pick-up. A home closer to Sibang Kaja may demand less family time, even without a bus stop near its gate. The distinction becomes sharper when two children follow different after-school timetables. A predictable morning ride does not solve an unpredictable return. Nor does a supervisor on the bus tell parents whether the roadside approach to a particular rental suits their child. The school's May 2025 stop list is a useful housing search tool, not a 2026/27 promise. The more resilient choice is a home that still works on the day the bus cannot be used. That may mean a manageable direct school journey, a prearranged adult collection or a shorter initial rental commitment. A confirmed BioBus service can then improve the housing decision instead of carrying all its risk.
