A 75-hectare public park is taking shape at Boeung Tamok in Phnom Penh
Tree planting is advanced, but that is not the same as a finished park
Prime Minister Hun Manet announced the project during the inauguration of Luang Me Hospital. According to state news agency AKP, extensive land reclamation has already taken place and roughly four-fifths of the planned tree planting has been completed.
The site is intended to provide space for exercise, leisure and outdoor sports. Phnom Penh officials had also referred to the 75-hectare northwest park initiative when presenting the city's 2026–2030 tourism development plan in August.
The 80% figure should be read narrowly: it describes tree planting, not overall construction or visitor readiness. The September 17 announcement did not give a full opening date or spell out which paths, sports areas, lighting or other public facilities are already usable.

The practical value will depend on access after opening
For people living in or considering northwest Phnom Penh, a public green space of this scale could become a meaningful everyday amenity. Its usefulness will depend less on the headline acreage than on how the site connects to surrounding neighbourhoods, what facilities are actually delivered and whether it is convenient to reach without a long trip across the city.
Until those details are clear, renters and homebuyers should treat the park as planned infrastructure rather than an existing neighbourhood service. The announcement alone does not establish shorter travel times or higher property values nearby.
