Sihanoukville Is Building a New Coastal Walkway Along the Seafront

Event date

Cambodia’s Agence Kampuchea Presse reported that the Preah Sihanouk provincial administration is constructing the new seafront route as part of wider efforts to improve the city’s coastal public realm. The project is presented as both an urban improvement and a tourism-oriented development.

The Route Runs from Techo Square to Ochheuteal Beach

The announced section links Techo Square in Sangkat 3 with Ochheuteal Beach. According to AKP, construction is active and the design incorporates large natural stones, which the provincial authorities describe as a contemporary reference to Khmer architectural heritage.

The project should still be treated as a work in progress. The 8 September announcement did not provide a completion date, an official opening date or a detailed delivery schedule, so the promenade cannot yet be assumed to be available for everyday use.

Everyday Use Matters More Than Investment Claims

If completed as described, the promenade could create a more continuous pedestrian connection between a public square and the beachfront. For people living or renting nearby, the practical value would be in walkability, access to the coast and the quality of the public space rather than in the project’s promotional language.

The walkway is being developed while Cambodia continues its 2024–2027 special investment incentive programme for Preah Sihanouk province. That broader policy context does not establish that this single project will raise property prices, rents or visitor numbers. Any such effect would need to be supported by separate evidence after the promenade is completed and in regular use.
