Nearly 198,000 sq m of cleared land handed to Kaoh Pao community in Koh Kong
Let’s explore this page together
The site is in Pak Khlang commune and was cleared under an India-supported Quick Impact Project linked to the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation framework. Cambodian mine-action officials, provincial authorities and the Embassy of India took part in the handover ceremony.
A defined 197,810 sq m site has been returned to community use
The October 3 reports from Agence Kampuchea Presse and Fresh News Asia describe the clearance as complete for the project area. The land had previously been identified as mine-contaminated, restricting safe access and normal use.
The handover opens the cleared area for livelihoods, farming, housing and other community activities. That is the immediate significance for local residents: a specific piece of land that carried a mine-related restriction can now be used again following the completion of the clearance project.
The current handover coverage identifies around 134 families as direct beneficiaries. That figure belongs to this project and this stage of the handover; it should not be treated as a count for the wider commune or province.
For practical context, see Cambodia law and taxes. This development also connects with Cambodia Details Aid for 9,000 Border-Affected Families.
The cleared boundary matters more than the village name
This announcement does not establish that all of Kaoh Pao, Pak Khlang commune or Koh Kong province is free of mines. It confirms clearance and handover of the 197,810-square-metre project area.
For someone assessing nearby land, the question is whether a particular parcel sits within the verified cleared area. The handover also does not establish ownership, cadastral boundaries or transaction rights, so those issues remain separate from the mine-clearance status.
