TH Automotive Manufacturing officially opens its Kampong Chhnang plant
The project is designed for up to 20,000 vehicles a year
The facility is located in Kampong Tralach district, Kampong Chhnang province. Government sources put the investment at about US$19.3 million and the site at roughly 11 hectares. TH Automotive Manufacturing obtained the right to assemble GAC vehicles in Cambodia in 2025, while the wider investment project also covers Chevrolet assembly.
The project is designed for annual capacity of up to 20,000 vehicles, with the company targeting about 90% for Cambodia's domestic market and 10% for export. This is not a plant starting from zero on inauguration day: trial operations began on March 8, and 213 vehicles had been assembled before the formal opening.
Around 250 people work at the facility. For Kampong Chhnang, that is the most immediate effect of the project — technical manufacturing jobs tied to an operating plant rather than a future investment announcement.

Cambodia now has 10 operating vehicle assembly plants
Agence Kampuchea Presse reported on September 17 that Cambodia had 15 automotive assembly projects in total. Ten were fully operational, two were close to starting production, and three were still in planning or construction. Combined investment was reported at nearly US$248 million, with 2,774 jobs linked to the projects.
Authorities put the country's total vehicle assembly capacity at about 35,000 units a year. That figure is best read as sector capacity, not as confirmed production for 2026. Actual output will depend on utilisation at each factory and on demand for locally assembled vehicles.
The government also used the launch to call for closer assessment of market demand before further expansion of the sector. For businesses watching the industry, the number of approved plants therefore tells only part of the story; utilisation and commercial sustainability matter as well.
**Jobs are immediate; a local supplier network is still a next step**
For prospective workers, the practical change is already visible: the province has a functioning assembly plant that depends on trained technical staff. For local companies, a broader opportunity could emerge in components, logistics and industrial services, but those supplier relationships should not automatically be treated as established contracts yet. Officials described deeper local sourcing as a direction for future development.
For entrepreneurs and investors, the opening is another sign that Cambodia's automotive sector includes a growing base of operating assembly facilities. It is still important to separate installed capacity from sales, production volumes and the long-term viability of individual plants.
